Nice cheap shifters, and they come with both brake and shifter inner cables. Shifting is fine, and feels precise, but I think the brake lever is a little sloppy (but I'm picky) top to bottom, between the wings of the casting. My wife will never notice, so it really doesn't matter. Basically, they work great, but if it were my bike I'd kick in the extra 20 or 30 bucks for a nice shimano or sram upgraded shifter, because I like a nice feel on the shifters and brakes.

The BESNIN Shifter and Brake Combo is a adequate clone of Shimano Alto shifter/brake combo. I needed a replacement set since my old Shimano Alto shifter was damaged from a fall and the shifter cover plate came off and spring mechanism fell apart.The BESNIN shifter set has a lever on top and one on the bottom, while my original Altus A10 model had 2 levers on the bottom. But these feel just like the set of shifters as on my other bike.It is easy to install onto the 25.4mm bike handle. Just ensure the cable housings are all seated before tightening the cables. The cable tension can be adjusted via the barrel adjuster to fine tune shift and brake. After some use, the cables are stretched and will need to be adjusted to maintain proper shift and derailleur adjustment.

These work and they were about half the price of similar Shimano components. If you just need to get the bike back on the road, these will do. However, the shifting feels mushy due to flex in the levers and mechanisms. I opened up the eight-speed shifter just today to install a longer cable (changed handlebars, not a fault in the original shifter or cable). Looking at the internals doesn't inspire any more confidence than the mushy feel of the shifter lever.All in all, these are functional, budget-priced components that deliver about the performance you should expect of low-end parts. If price is important, or these are just the universal spares you keep around for emergencies, these might work out well for you. If you want crisp shifting or high durability, its probably better to stick with the name brand parts.

I got these because when I shifted, the chain would rub on the guard. I've tried several adjustments and it still wasn't right. When I installed these, the problem went away after a simple adjustment.
