Excellent Resource - a Must Have if you are considering working in 3rd world villages
It was far more comprehensive than I expected. It was well used on a recent trip to Nias, Indonesia. I like it because it is a easy to read but is also still relevant for healthcare workers. I liked how it enables the healthcare worker to adapt their knowledge to village environments with poor resources. It explains a number of different conditions that are present in villages that would be rare or non-existent in western countries….useful because these conditions are not addressed in a standard undergraduate degrees in Australia. It would be useful not only for preparing for working in 3rd world but also as a text to take with. It is full of good practical ideas and basic health strategies which could be shared with parents and local health care workers. Having said all this it is important to work in these settings as part of a sustainable project led by experienced people….this book is a guide only. I think a USB containing the book would be great alternative to use with current tablet or ipad technology.

This Book Really is a Great Reference and will be a springboard for a care program
In developing countries, most of the handicapped live indoors on the couch and are relegated to a life of neglect. While parents may want to provide some support and care, they simply do not know how to provide such care. I went with some physical therapists to Nicaragua and was blown away by what they could do in such a short time. This book actually covers the bases and includes many of the essential things done by the therapist and it is well illustrated with good photos where a parent can work with their child. Thanks David for publishing this book. I will share it with my therapists and use it to develop a program.

Amazing hand-on book
As a pediatric rehabilitation specialist who does lots of work in the developing world, this book is indispensable. Detailed, flexible, and well versed in working for this difficult population in the most difficult settings. Thanks David Werner

every health professional should own this
What great read. Covers a broad perspective of priding alternative solutions to rehabilitation and how to utilise local people knowledge and information to collaborate as a team.

Resourceful guide
If I ever get the chance to provide services to children in need (who do not have appropriate health care support), this book would be the first thing I'd pack. Plenty of useful lnformation in this book. Haven't tried to fashion any of the equipment, but I'm sure they all work wonders for kids and their families.

Great content especially for new OT's
Great content especially for new OT's. A bit tricky to read though, pages are thing and there's LOTS of small writing.

Good for those in city also
A good heart is essential but not enough in rehabilitation work. This book thus gives readers the basic understanding of people with different kinds of disabilities, enabling us to work well with them. What's more, the numerous heartfelt photos show us that if we can get things right, people with disabilities can enjoy a joyful life. What's more, the author is so kind that he even encourages readers to xerox the content if necessary provided that not everyone can afford buying a book.

Every paediatric clinician/therapist should own a copy!
I forgot this book excisted untiltalking to a Mexican friend and immediately ordered a coy. It used to be on our recommended book list at stellenbosch University in South africa a looooooong time ago.Reading it again is such a pleasure. This book and the approach to disability and function is second to none. As has been proven over the last 30 years, treating any form of disability with a botton-up approach does not give positive results to the child or family and does not help them integrate into society by reaching their full functional potential. The whole concept behind assessment and treatment was decades ahead of its time.If you work in paediatrics, whether it is neurodisability, orthopaedics, genetics, or any other specialism, this is the most essential book to have in your library.

An excellent resource
I am an occupational therapist and took this book to a recent trip to a centre for disabled people in Tanzania. It was an excellent resource to explain conditions in simple terms and gave excellent strategies to use whatever materials and resources available. It is targeted for use in rural locations where medical and therapeutic advice is very limited. I expected it to have dated a little judging by the age of the book, however this wasn't the case and the advice still stands. I left it there for the use of the staff and will be definitely buying another.
