Woodstock Chimes Signature Collection, Pipedream, 11'' Eastern Energies Musical Chimes for Awareness, Meditation, Relaxation (PDN)

This makes a great sounding play-thing for children but the damping from the rubber mounting system kills so much of the vibration that it is not really satisfactory for playing as a musical instrument. However, after going to the considerable trouble of making a hanging rack for the tubes, like the professional systems, i find their vibrancy doubles to the point of being almost a bit much of the light, bright, sustained harmonics. Perhaps i will want to tame them down a bit with heavier cord.

I grew up in Woodstock, NY. I was hoping the 'Woodstock Pipedream' was made there. Country of origin is China according to packaging. Maybe the child that made this has at least heard of Woodstock. Nonetheless this item has a nice sound, and my 3 and 5-year kids love it. Seems reasonable well built. I'd rather it was made locally - and for that I'd gladly pay twice the price. Long live petroleum and hydrocarbon man!

We bought the Woodstock Pipedream for our son and daughter-in-law for Christmas thinking it would be a wonderful and relaxing stress reliever for them as they both have very demanding jobs in Washington DC.We open gifts "together" over the phone because we live in West TN. When they opened this up, our son immediately started playing it and it was hard to get him to stop so he could open the rest of his gifts! Our daughter-in-law said that it was too bad we couldn't see his face because he looked like a kid in a candy store and had the biggest smile on his face.Of course, we could hear the melodious sounds through the telephone and it was beautfiful - my husband made a comment that maybe we needed to get one for ourselves! I thought to myself he was right, we definintely needed one too and it wasn't too long after that I ordered ours!! It now sits on our dining room table and just about every day, one of us - if not both - can be heard playing it at some time or another. We both love playing it - whether learning one of the songs that came in the small music book, making our own music or just trailing the stick over the 8 pipes - hearing the soothing sounds always brings a smile to our faces.An added bonus to our Woodstock Pipdream is the "Music for a Pipedram" CD that came with it!"Kids" of all ages will enjoy owning a Woodstock Pipdream! In fact, next Christmas we plan on getting one for our other son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter.

Returned for the following reasons: 1. Wood frame poor quality - the wood is unrefined and, in my opinion ugly. 2. The pipes are held in place by rubber nibs that fit into holes in the pipes - the nibs for two of the pipes were damaged - they were bent. I was able to secure the pipes by forcing the nibs straight and I don't believe this minor problem affected the sound of the instrument.What I liked: The sound is beautiful but I soon tired of the limitations. It's very rudimentary if you want to play any songs. I knew this when I purchased it but I didn't think I would tire so quickly (one day) of it. I purchased it mostly because I can't afford to purchase a 'real' instrument. I suppose it depends what you use this for - for meditation I'm sure it would be fine.

I live across the country from my dad, and don't get to see him as often as I'd like. I was trying to find something unique to get him for his birthday. My dad is musically inclined, and I used to have an alarm that used a single chime which I loved (alas, it got knocked off the nightstand one too many times!) so I took a chance on this.I have to mention that I went to the Woodstock Chimes home website where they have short audio clips of all their chimes. I nearly bought a smaller set, but when I heard the tones they made, (I found them awful) I searched and found this. Pentatonic scale (I'm not as musically educated as my dad) means that it will sound good with almost any other instrument. As a gift, I got the gift-wrapping option as well.Oh, and the price here on Amazon was better than the Woodstock Chimes page too!So the real payoff for me was when I called my dad to find out if he had received the package ok. He told me that he actually had played with them for over an hour when he opened them! I can't think of a better testimony/review than that!Thanks Amazon!

Nice chimes, but the three higher notes don't ring out very well. They kind of thud instead, especially the highest note / smallest tube. The tone fades too quickly. Seems to be dampened. Not sure if it's a design flaw or a manufacturing flaw. I'll contact the manufacturer and update if possible. My daughter like to play with them but I'm quite disappointed in the thud factor on the high notes.

This is a beautiful and exquisite instrument. If you love wind chimes, you will absolutely adore this. You know how when you enter a chime store, you just want to play with all the chimes? Well now you can, all the time, in the comfort of your own home. This instrument not only sounds great but it's easy to play. I just got mine three days ago and I can already play many songs on it. Even if you don't want to play a specific song, you can create a new one and it will sound great, trust me. This is also a great instrument for households with children as it's pretty much impossible for it to sound bad or annoying. My little one plays it all the time, she loves it and I actually love listening to her play. Relaxing, fun, easy, and beautiful! What more could you ask for?

I saw this at a retreat center and had to have one because it gave me such a calm feeling when I played it. Now that I have it at home, it has a place on a table so that any guest can come by and play it. I also sent one to my son for his 46th birthday because I am trying to introduce him to contemplative meditation. Contemplative meditation works for me and I'm hoping it will have the same affect on him. I told him it was a "meditation toy" and I'm hoping that the use of the word "toy" will take out the idea of it being a "tool". But it is both and very effective. I begin each journaling session every morning with playing it for a few moments. What a great way to start a day!!!

Lower notes resonate best, high notes kind of lacking shine. Looks and feels quality made. Sounds good. One star held back because I wish the tubes were held in more securely they attach loosely on one end only and it's too easy for my kids to pull apart.

The chimes were larger than expected and had a deeper sound, which, for me, was a bonus. Good quality materials as well.Hold the sticks lightly for the best sound. Fun to play with and play simple tunes, or use it to change the resonance of a room, both work.It was well packaged and came on time.

Wow, I really like it and the sound is just amazing.
