The Solution to Mole Problems
We've struggled with moles in our 1-acre suburban yard for over a year. They have really done a number on our beautiful expanse of a lawn. I previously tried the standard Cinch mole traps, but without success... and it takes digging down into a run, or enlarging one of the mounds/holes, to effectively set the Cinch traps, which causes even more damage. In desperation, because I was dreading coming back in a few weeks from vacation and seeing my lawn look like a WWI battlefield complete with trench lines, I picked up a couple of these based upon a friend's recommendation. These are a VERY sturdy trap, well-designed and engineered, and robustly manufactured here in the US. I expect them to last longer than I do! Certainly much more substantial than the flimsy Cinch traps. (Not to pick on the Cinch traps, but they aren't very sensitive and I have to wonder if many a mole, or many times for the same moles, has wandered over them without setting them off. Once, since I've owned them, has a Cinch trap been sprung... but no mole or sign of a mole.)I recommend viewing the manufacturer's YouTube video, at [...], to get some more hints about how to set this trap. It's important that you do three things to maximize success: find an active run, slightly compress the run before you set the trap immediately above the area you squashed, and ensure the trigger plate is directly above the run and parallel to the ground (it has a tendency to shift to one side if you are not careful when you press down on the trap with your foot to drive it into the ground and set it). The trap's design takes advantage of mole behavior and works in a manner that is as simple as it is ingenious; as it is inserted and set, the two scissors on each end of the trap expand so that they disappear into the side of the mole tunnel and the trigger plate rests immediately above where the tunnel has been compressed. The unsuspecting mole will amble down the tunnel, come to the squashed portion under the trap, and instinctively want to force its way while re-expanding the tunnel to its full height... triggering the trap and the mole's demise.I got the traps on Saturday morning (love that Amazon Prime shipping!), and set them up immediately. No catches that night, so I followed the instructions and looked for another run. Our lawn was mowed on the previous Thursday and so I looked for a fresh mound to indicate a new run, and found some in another part of the yard. I set the traps again on Sunday evening on the new run. When my wife got home on Monday (I had shown her and my son how to safely and correctly set, and spring, the traps so they could move them in my absence) one of the traps had sprung... and we caught a mole! My wife was so excited (she, too, hates the damage these destructive creatures have caused) that she sent me a cell phone photo of the first victim before she moved the trap about 10' away to another part of the same run, compressed the run, set the trap, and then took my son to his martial arts class. When they got home a couple hours later, the trap was sprung again... another mole! Our neighbors have been plagued by moles, as have we, and we've all collectively spent hundreds of dollars to try and eliminate these varmints. I can say that this is the VERY FIRST TIME that the money we have spent has been effective. I would buy stock in this company if they were public, but as it isn't I can only give the product my highest recommendation -- too bad I can't give it SIX stars! Follow the instructions and it WILL rapidly and effectively catch your moles!

Finally Got Him!
I have been plagued by a mole for the last month or so. I live on a 1/2 acre lot in the middle of a suburban neighborhood, so I have no idea where this little bastage came from. I talked to a few neighbors and they haven't seemed to have any issues with moles, so who knows. This critter was doing a number on my lawn. In a matter of weeks, there were trails in both my front and back yards, and even some on the side yard. I was getting nervous about him killing my fairly expensive dwarf Japanese maple tree.I love how this trap doesn't require any major prep-work. Just figure out which run you want to trap, stick it in there, and press down on the lever with your foot to set it. Watch the manufacturer video on youtube to see exactly how to do it. Here are some additional notes on this trap and/or my experience:1) I had one trail that I stomped back down about 12 days ago. After about 5 days, I noticed that the trail was STILL down, so I figured he wasn't going to use it any more. I received my trap in the mail, and set it in a more recent trail. The next morning it was popped, but no mole. As I walked around looking for a new place to set it, I noticed that the original trail I had stomped down about 6 days ago was now raised again! I didn't realize that he might take that long to get back to it. So, I figured I was going to use this trail to set my trap. It was nice and straight (if you read other reviews, you'll notice that the straight ones are more their "highways" and the curvy ones are him hunting around. You want to trap the highways). So I set my trap and just let it be. I checked it every morning before work and in the evening when I got home. After three days, I was getting kind of antsy, but I still didn't move the trap. I figured, he has to come back to this trail that he just re-opened a few days ago! Well sure enough, on day 4 after setting the trap, it was finally popped. I pulled it out of the ground and there he was! Dead as a doornail. Wow, that was a glorious moment. This varmint has been tearing up my lawn for weeks now. I read some reviews where they said move the trap if it is not popped within 24 hours. I think you may need to wait like 4-5 days before moving it.2) I like the idea someone else provided about wearing gloves when handling this trap. Spend another $10 on a box of disposable rubber gloves. Don't ever touch the trap without gloves on. I have heard that they have a great sense of smell and will avoid the trail altogether if they smell a human.3) Respect this trap! I was basically thinking as long as I am not near the jaws I am good. Well one time I was having trouble setting it without having it pop up within a few seconds. I leaned over and pushed it down with my hand so I could better apply directional pressure. Of course, it popped on its own while I was pulling my hand away and the lever hit me right in the palm. No serious damage, but it smacked my palm pretty hard and it was sore for about a day.4) I was really disappointed to see this trap was made in China. The Wire Tek 1001 trap looks IDENTICAL, only costs like four bucks more, and (according to the picture of the box) is made in the USA! For four bucks I really wish I bought the USA model. But, the description on this trap never claimed to be made in the USA or anything, so I couldn't take any stars away from it. I just wish I had noticed the Wire Tek one before ordering this one.Bottom Line: This trap really worked for me in the end.

Well built, but that's it!
The devices are well built out of nice rust free steel components, but that is about all I can say good about them. We purchased four of these units as we have a nice little mole population in our yard making several mole hills everywhere each day. We followed the instructions and have yet to catch even a SINGLE mole after 3 months of using. We have moved followed instructions and moved them around several times. We are not sure where we go from here. After we researched the product more on youtube and viewed videos about this product it seems that these devices are better suited in areas of the country where the moles do not burrow very far underground (what I like to call close to surface moles), these are moles where you can actually see the trail of the mole from one mole hill to the other, the trail kind of protrudes a little from underneath the grass upwards. Our moles in the Pacific NW and specifically in our our yard actually burrow much deeper and therefore these moles do not leave any signs of protruding trails from one mole hill to the other and this is why these devices in my opinion do not work that well for us as we can not seem to locate the tunnel and place the trap accordingly. Not sure what to do with these mole traps now other than recycle them for scrap metal or I guess I could clean them up and try and resell them as "used" to someone in an area of the country that can actually use them

Design weakness
I own the competitor brand, called Wire Tech. I needed another one and thought I'd save a few bucks by going with this brand. Unfortunately the wire leveler bars just push down into the ground, unlike the solid plate utilized by the more expensive Wire Tech brand. Also, mine was faulty and wouldn't set. I returned it and paid more the the higher quality one. They are worth the money and work very well.
