Walken at his best !!

Who do you believe on here? One guy says the movie inquestion is a total piece of obscene garbage, the nextreviewer says it's the most magnificent piece of workHollywood ever produced. I eventually came to the con-clusion it's all subjective. Having said that, I'd have to sayI love this movie. I've seen it several times over the years,and I'll probably see it several more times before I'm done(literally). I like the soundtrack by Schooly D too, especiallythe track "I'm Black", that rolls about two thirds the way in.I love that song. And I'm not nearly black and don't want tobe. I actually think that's Schooly D's best piece of work, andhe put out a whole lot of stuff. It fits right into the movieperfectly.

Christopher Walken isn't who comes to mind as an iconic gangster character in film, but that is probably what you'd say before watching this movie. Frank White, which was The Notorious BIG's favorite alias, was a defining role for Walken in that his range of emotion could be seen as well as verbalized. The stoic pauses of the facial expressions he makes while executing a young hotheaded David Caruso says a lot to the extent that "So long Mel, have a good trip" could at the most equal but never surpass. I remembered this performance as well the cast which included Wesley Snipes (pre-Nino Brown), Laurence Fishburne as a sociopathic homeboy (played very convincingly btw), Steve "Nucky Thompson" Buschemi (blink twice and you'll miss him though lol), Theresa Randle, Giancarlo Esposito, Roger Geunver Smith, and even the guy who played Augustus on Oz (forgot his real name, sorry lol). I never realized that the first time i watched the film, which was acceptable considering this was way back in 95 on late night during a grade school year, but more or less it was the story that i recalled the most which made me buy this dvd. The special features are also cool, even though you might not sit through the entire short film about the director unless you're very familiar with him. The Schooly D feature is funny and kind of eye opening, because he has to be the most goofiest gangster rapper I've ever seen (and I see Waka Flacka everywhere down here in ATL lol). The music video he did for the movie, as well as the story behind it, was very entertaining also. All in all, if you remember Biggie calling himself Frank white, the movie itself from back in the day, or you just like watching Chris Walken stare vacantly while executing someone, then this is the DVD for thee.

I am usually interested in just about any movie Christopher Walken stars in. This movie was no exception. It is similar in nature to New Jack City coming out near the same time period as several other reviewers have already pointed out. I would rate the film as pretty good but not great.I see a lot of similarities between Frank White's character and Al Capone. Frank stays at a luxury hotel in this case the New York Plaza to flaunt his status and wealth. Al Capone did the same thing. This is not a film you have to wait long for the story to really pickup. Frank didn't wait long after getting out of prison before he starts getting even and has his old crew take out his competition to his livelihood. There didn't seem to be any central figure that was responsible for putting Frank behind bars so it isn't totally a revenge based movie. Frank's character goal in the film is to build something good in this case a low income hospital he knows he doesn't have a lot of time left and wants to make the most of it.There is a lot to like about this movie. I liked the car chase scene where they show you guys shooting out the windows but not really hitting a whole lot. It would be difficult to aim and fire out a moving cars swerving. Its actually the cops in this movie who go all vigilante. I would have thought that Frank would have had some crooked cops on his payroll as well if he was that powerful. He didn't seem to be a guy who wouldn't cover all his bases.As many others have pointed out the cast in this film is fantastic with even small roles going to big name actors. This film has lots of violence nudity bad language and all the things you expect out of an R rated film. I don't think the overall story is as good as New Jack City, but King of New York is still was an interesting movie for the time period it came out in. I like the fact that Frank points out to the lead cop that the city went downhill after he was put in prison and got worse not better. Really makes you think about it from villains point of view. I would rate it a strong 4 stars.

Christopher Walkin plays a very dangerous crime lord with a heart( but a cold one) and is destined to get the hospital he wants built at all costs. All of the actors in this movie play their hearts out to supplement the plot and the activities to support Christopher Walkin's goals.

People told me about this movie, but I never sat down to watch it until now. I was surprised by the IMDB trivia that said those that played the "bad guys" got booed off stage because the people were shocked about the drug selling, were they all "Just Say NO advocates or something. I was surprised since Goodfellas came out the same year and I never heard about any booing. Racism maybe? Anyway, I thought it was a decent film- not great, but it definitely had many of my favorite actors doing what they do. I am so anti-drug, I even refuse prescriptions but Frank White had a point. He took an already corrupt business and tried to make it less so - better than some politicians. And WTH were the police thinking? How were they going to handle the outcome of their vigilante efforts even if it did go they way they wanted? And for their main motivation to be jealousy? If they really cared they would have put the same efforts in getting the ones Frank killed.

It's imperfection is what makes it so great. It's a raw, visceral viewing experience. Christopher Walken exudes charisma and intelligence as Frank White, the man steals every scene and gives in my opinion a career best performance, as you find yourself routing for a person you should hate, because unlike the law enforcement pursing him, Frank White has and believes in a code.

Sto riscoprendo la filmografia di un regista tanto talentuoso quanto discontinuo quale Abel Ferrara.Questo King of New York fa sicuramente parte dei suoi capolavori. Uno splendido noir metropolitano con un sontuoso Christopher Walken a giganteggiare in un cast di ottimo livello.
