Think Harmony With Horses: An In-Depth Study of Horse/Man Relationship
V**D
The words of wisdom that will touch your heart and your horses with you.
First bought the book in 1982. Rode with Ray Hunt, and watched him, Tom Dorrance, and Bill Dorrance work, often. Pat Parelli, met in 1988, is my current senior leader, as the others have gone to Horseman's Heaven, but they were some of the finest men on the planet, all who truly understood horses, and were able to share that understanding, deeply with humans who were fortunate to encounter them. Just got it again, as fire took allof my wonderful books and so i am not getting autographed copies, but I am grateful to touch and read, and remember the finest. My Draft cross, 1/2 Friesian 1/2 Percheron, born out of a pmu Percheron, after she foaled her first Percheron at 3 at my home, later bought by someone for the breeding to a Friesian, now mine. Too stove up to be the first on her back, a fellow who had Ray do a clinic at his stable in 1982, first saddled my Bel,and rode her a month or so, while I came around the last several days, and rode her with him, even working cows on her back. Since the woman who bred the pmu Percheron to get that darling filly, decided not to keep it, I was most fortunate to get her a couple years ago. Thanks to Mike's understanding of Ray's concepts, he did a fairly good job. He understood Ray's message, and has worked with Pat as well. That good horse will now, most likely, be helping veterans with PTSD, her gentle nature, and her spiritual training fitting her well to be a therapy horse. Some of these folks around the horses today are true giants among horsemen. We have been blessed to be here while they served the horses. Like Ray said, "He is a lawyer for the horse." There are no problem horses, just horses with people problems. Book is a gift that keeps on giving.

A book to refer to again, and again
This is a thoughtful little book, but one I return to again and again. The way the book is written, and the gentle way he has in communicating his wealth of wisdom about horses, kind of gives the impression of the calm and confident master that he is. Because you can't read a book as you're trying to work with your horse, I read a little at a time, so that the lessons eventually become a part of me. I usually refer to it when I'm planning what to do with my horse each day. It's not primarily a step-by-step instruction manual, but more of a way of approaching horses, a "feel." Everyone who desires to be a horseman, as opposed to just a rider, should have this book.

What to say about this book. Well first off it does have some good pieces of information that relate to horse training and is similar to a lot of the greats that taught about horses. Many things the man says are more about natural horsemanship. I underlined quite a few things in the book that I can take away from the man. That being said, the man isn’t a writer. He was probably a much better horseman than an author. The book can be hard to get through because he isn’t very articulate or good at putting words together, but the man deserves enough respect to get through it and learn what he has to say. If you are a real horse person I suspect you’ll buy this book. Each piece of knowledge that you gain gets you that much closer to improving your skills as a horse person and this is just one of those books you need to add to your collection.

How to think about horses
I already shared a lot of the philosophy for dealing with horses. This is probably where the philosophy came from. The author comes across as a genuinely kind and thoughtful person. I wish I could have had a clinic with him before he passed away. The book is not very long and is more like a philosophical free association than a pragmatic way to approach. I am glad I read the book but it is not one I will need to go back to like some of the others in my library.

Learn appreciation
I love this book. It’s not a step by step guide, but you have to read this book. I was familiar with Ray Hunts concepts and the lineage of horse trainers before and after him that follow this theory. It just makes sense. But reading this book at the very least, enabled me to not be down on the things my horse couldn’t do, but really proud of the things he could do and things he’d try to learn for me. The relationship I have with my horse after reading this entire book in one night is 1000% stronger.

Kindness is key to training horses
Hunt is not a writer, yet he gets his message across loud and clear. You can train a horse to do anything. If you want to make this fast, be supremely kind and gentle handling your horse

Every horse owner should read it
This a book written by Ray Hunt about the relationship with your horse. How you can see where your horses attention is so you can redirect it to be where you want it to be before trying to teach the horse anything. If your horses mind is somewhere else you might get a fight rather than the response you require.

Feel, timing and balance.. what more would you possibly need
Brilliant book for people not looking for quick fixes or 'how to' manuals. This is more of a philosophy of how to ride, making you think how you communicate with your horse and how you come across to your horse. An absolute gem, which makes riding a relaxed and pleasant activity for both you and the horse.Mixes fabulously with classical dressage principles. I couldn't believe how sensitive, philosophical and 'soft' cowboys could be.Ride now like this my big Finnhorse and it works like a dream; blended in with the classical dressage training (Faerber) he is now an unbelevably wonderful, cooperative and calm horse to ride without any conflicts.
