A portable siphon pump
Needed a small portable siphon to clear fuel out of the many gasoline power things we all use these days: lawnmower, seedeater, etc. This is a great little tool, perfectly priced, with good build quality. It does what you expect and you can use it to drain the fuel fromyour motorcycle or riding mower ...no problem. Easy to use (one intake; one output), unbreakable (handy, I drop a lot of things) and effective. Great for small gas tanks. Not for use with vehicles that have really large gas tanks (like cars). Recommended.

Better than expected
After reading a lot of really negative reviews featuring this pump/siphon, or at least a picture that looked the same, I was nervous about this one. However, the unit seems to be of reasonably good quality. Hoses are not "permanently kinked", pump handle works smoothly. I did oil the plunger before using it and had no problems with sticking. I used it to siphon fuel out of my 20' Lund fishing boat and it did just fine. Filled a 5 gallon can in about 15 minutes or less. Conclusion; this vendor seems to be selling a better product than most of what is for sale. This was my third try, I threw two earlier units away (different style). They were so bad I didn't even bother to return them...

Just okay.
The pump gets three stars because it technically does what it says it will. It does siphon the gas the way it describes. However, when we used it, it was rather hot and humid outside and it made it very difficult to coordinate holding the hoses and pump and actually pumping. The hoses tend to collapse even on gasoline. I suspect the hot weather had to do with that. We ended up swapping the hose with a rubber fuel line on the suction side and it performed much better. I believe it was a 5/6" line. Since it was a little more rigid, it was easier to use.I was also expecting to just pump a few times to get the flow going then being able to rest. This siphon does not work that way. The flow is only active while you are pumping. If you are transferring a large amount of liquid, I would try another siphon. We removed about 12-15 gallons and it was quite a bit of effort. Plus, every so often the outlet hose would pop out and spray gas everywhere. This meant wasted pumps and effort. This would probably work best during cooler weather and with a smaller amount of liquid.

As Usual, depends how and for what you use it-- worked for oil pumping, good for price
Some of these reviews call this "useless." I'll admit it didn't work for me at first, so I had to think it through.I siphoned 20W-50 and 10W-40 oil from my VW TDI engine. Make sure the oil's warm to start obviously. The key was to cut the large orange hose down to size because it likes to collapse under pumping pressure. Now it's only a couple inches between the pump and adapter to the smaller black hose, which goes to the oil pan. Cut this to the size you need too-- no need to make a longer oil path and more friction than you need. After that, with oil at least, it's not so much a siphon as pump. Pay attention to the ideal pumping frequency. You'll get a little siphoning, then it will stop (it's oil after all), so pump again. ~5 second intervals worked well for me, and despite the effort, it was still less time than if I'd had to put the car up.For water, it did siphon for me.Is it cheaply made? Of course it is-- that's why it's cheaply priced. Don't treat it like it's made of titanium or Kryptonite, and you should be fine. A useful tool for the price.

For the price, it works fine.
So far I have transferred over 40 gallons with this during four separate times and I have not had a single issue with it. I was worried about it leaking out of the two ends but no issues thus far. I can understand why people say it is flimsy, but unless you are using every bit of possible force to pull and push the piston, yeah, you could have problems with it breaking. If you slowly pull it up and push it down, it WILL work exactly as it should and will not break immediately as some users have stated.

Piece . . . of . . . . junk!
As other reviews have said, if you are using it to transfer liquid, it leaks all over the place. This is particularly problematic if you are transferring gas or any other flammable liquid. Perhaps it is ok for air, but that's not why I bought it. Gas can must still sit higher than the container to which you are transferring, even with the pump. Once it gets going, it does transfer the liquid pretty quickly, unless you have to stop it to adjust for a leak or the hose coming out all together. Do not buy it!!!!

Handy light-duty tool to install tire ballast
I purchased this kit to transfer washer fluid into a lawn tractor tire. It worked quite well for that task. No issues with product function. The design provides a reasonable balance of speed and pressure for this task. All of the necessary parts for this task are included, which was really nice. This is not a serious tool for daily, long-term use. It suited my light-duty requirement perfectly though.

Worked well for oil in small engine
Stripped oil drain plug on lawn tractor. Briggs & Stratton 12hp engine. This took alittle while, but it worked fine. I cut the hoses to fit better. They were way too long for my purpose. Also used small clamps to hold hoses on better. When used for this purpose this works more like a pump than a siphon. It was easy to use. Saved me alot of time and I got the oil changed on my lawn tractor without any problem. Great shipping from Amazon too.
