Vet-tech Dog Dental Cleaning System, 8-Pack

I have used this product with the Silver Tails handle and refill solution on my 2 dogs, a 12-year old German Shorthaired Pointer and a 3-year old Labrador Retriever. They both seem to love the beef-flavored solution and accept the cleaning with no problems as they are used to having their teeth brushed daily. I use the Silver Tails system every 2 weeks and notice their teeth are very smooth after using it and it seems to dissolve the stains on their teeth easier than me scraping with a scaler. I was surprised at how effective this system is. My Lab's teeth are practically spotless anyway, but after using the Silver Tails on her, she looks like she has just had a professional cleaning. My older German Shorthair's teeth are not exactly spotless and have yellowed some with age but still look pretty good for a 12-year old dog. She has always had some stains on her back molars that I have never been able to clean thoroughly with a scaler, but the first time I used the Silver Tails on her, I could tell a difference. They both like the taste and don't protest the cleanings, but it works a little better on the 57 lb. Lab's bigger mouth than on the 45 lb. Pointer's slightly smaller mouth. It would probably work fine for most medium-sized and larger dogs, but I would think the heads would be too large for a small dog. Perhaps they could make a smaller head for small dogs.

I did use the liquid with cotton swabs and wooden stick cotton swabs to clean their teeth, but even that has alcohol in it unnecessarily because other products don't use it. I have replaced this product's cleaner with PlaqueClenz that has zinc in it and I still use wooden stick cotton swabs to "brush" their teeth to get all of the sticky plaque off. I use a tarter scraper to remove any calcifications. This unit is in a box with all of the other products I've tried.

The dental cleaning system sounded wonderful in the add, however, it is very large and doesn't fit into my small dog's mouth.

I like this product for my senior dog. Its gentle. The big head is too a decent size but for me its fine, for a small dog I imagine it would be awful. I have a weimaraner though and she seems more receptive to letting me brush with this than she has in the past with other toothbrushes. The solution that comes with it says its beef flavored I believe, I didn't taste it but it smells like chemicals and my dog hated the taste. I plan to throw it out and just use the PetzAlive Plaque Gel stuff with it instead.

Great for my 4 dogs. The dogs don't mind the taste and the 2 medium dogs (50 pounds) don't have a problem with the applicator.I used the solution and q tips for my Chihuahua and Papillion. It really has helped their teeth and gums

I am not impressed with this item for the price. Dont waste your money. Good old fashioned toothbrushes with bristles are still the way to go.

Just a bit big for my little dog- and I don't have 12 more words to say about this either
