The Octavo: A Sorcerer-Scientist's Grimoire

Chaos Magic Theory and Cosmology
This book is kind if a culmination of Peter Carroll's work in Chaos Magic and cosmology. It provides a great framework for considering probabilities and potential courses of action. This is the kind of theoretical book that helps you figure out where to direct your efforts for maximum efficiency.

Brilliant and illuminating as always, if slightly incomprehensible.
Pete Carroll is brilliant as always, if slightly incomprehensible.I need some sort of framework, even if it's a metaphor, to hang my thoughts on. This book provides one.The math is beyond me, but I try to understand it as a set of functions (inputs, outputs, ratios), even if I don't use the numbers themselves.

I love magic, but hate God's?
The math is neat, it's internally consistent, but seems impressively tainted by the authors distaste for religion, often coming off as snobbish elitism when making snide remarks toward non western cultures. While some of the logical approach to spellcasting had value, it's bogged down in a multitude of limiting beliefs that run counter to the freeing attpitudes espoused in other chaos magic texts.Might be a good pick for a budding atheist or physicist magician, but offers little for anyone else.

One of the most important books on the market for any seeker of knowledge and understanding
Read it from cover to cover in five hours. Pete Carroll writes with definitive erudite, while maintaining a humble, practical, sensible, and reasonable approach to understanding reality. This could be a difficult read for most people but the formulas have far reaching implications upon our potential futures and I would encourage anyone desiring an understanding of truth and reality to take a stab at this book. It is slightly whimsical, fun, while explaining advanced mental concepts that are directly applicable and therefore potentially beneficial for everyday life. Most common persons could find this book to be radically liberating and more mind altering than any drug.

The entire book operates as a transmitter of a signal perceptible to those who have polished their "spiritual" (so-called) awareness. How far does the rabbit hole go? Depends upon how far you are from being this creations author. Not for less intuitive minds. Peter is always a trip that ayahuasca can't buy.

Great
Shipping was fast and accurate and Carroll once again puts together a great book for the aspiring Chaos initiate and also for those already well established in the practice. i Highly recommend first reading Liber Null & psychonaut as well as Liber Kaos before this to make sure you understand and grasp what hes laying out in this latest book. i haven't red the two between Liber Kaos and The Octavo but certainly intend to. Also there is quite alot of Mathematical formulas in this book so just a forewarning regarding that.

Peter J. Carroll has done it!...AGAIN!
As with his other titles, Peter J. Carroll has penned another masterpiece of magical literature. THIS volume, however, breaks it all down through the use of mathematics and formula. I'm not going into any details about the book; you'll have to read it for yourself. But I do regard it as invaluable to the collection of similar titles I have in my personal library. If you have even the tiniest bit of curiosity or are a seasoned Magus, get it and read it- you will NOT be disappointed!

The Octavo is beautifully written and brilliant
The Octavo is beautifully written and brilliant. I consider it now a staple of magical research, some of the premises I dont personally agree with, and some of the mathematics are flawed in that they dont carry and collate the units, but those are able to be worked through with basic math. However, the ideas are intuitive and groundbreaking in their overall practicality. So far it is my favorite of Peter J. Carroll's works. I look forward to reading the apophenion next.
