The Knife of the Century
Honestly, I was not too interested in the Big Brother when it first came out but after holding my friend's new one, I just had to have it. I just bought my 2217 Big Brother last week. This is perhaps the knife of the century, literally, because KA-BAR just redesigned an old classic and made it bigger and better! The blade is the perfect weight and width. Some people will definitely dislike the relatively thin blade but it is actually more practical and easier to sharp in the long run. As impressive as thick bladed knives are; do we really need them? The hilt seems a little small at first but I think that is so the knife can be replaced into the sheath without it getting caught up on the handle fastener. I was skeptical of the serrations at first but I ran my palm over it and gave myself a pretty good slice. I then tried it on some thick old rope and it went through it like melted butter. The serrations definitely save the finer edge which is much better for smaller tasks. The sheath smells so good and leathery and the KA-BAR USA logo is large and bold. The only thing I would change would be the size of the rivets. I would make them twice as large. If you are familiar with the Bear & Son American Bowie knife, it is practically the exact same size and weight as the Big Brother. So in conclusion, yes you should buy this fantastic American knife. I think it is better than the classic 7" KA-BAR because the hollow grind is broader allowing you to get that fine edge quicker. It may not be as solid as the "little brother" because it appears to have the same size tang running through the handle but a larger blade. I wouldn't worry about it though. You should never throw, bend, or wham the blade on any knife. The Big Brother will be great for hunting and camping and for the service as well.

Ka-bar
I’ve always been a big fan of ka-bar knives. The Big brother, is awesome!!!! Great giant knife. It’s twice the size of the USMC fighting knife by Ka-bar. Very sharp well built and same great ka-bar look. Sturdy leather sheath. If you know Ka-bar. You know this is a bad mo-fo .Highly recommended.

Great Blade At Little Cost
Just received my Ka-Bar Big Brother knife and must say I am impressed with it right out of the box. As with most blades the edge could be dressed a bit but it still came sharp enough to shave the hair on my arm. The leather handle is well shaped and fits my large hand well. The balance point is just where the blade edge begins at the bolster. The knife feels good and hefty, ready for either rough workor even skinning (although a knife this size wouldn't be my first choice as a skinner). I don't mind the serrations on the back of the blade, I'm sure they will slice right through cord or webbing if the need arises and I think I can still baton with no issues. The leather sheath is a quality piece of work and should last for years. All in all I am really pleased at the low cost for such an awesome tool that will surely give years of great service with just a minmum of care.Ka-Bar Leather Handled Big Brother Knife

The SOB of knives - a salute to our few remaining WWII Vets
If I ever had to choose one knife for almost any critical situation, this is it. Sharp, serrated, balanced weight, hard butt cap, bowie design. What else could you ask for in a knife? When you pull it out of the sheath, that big black blade makes a statement, and the next statement you will hear is "can I see that thing?" Housed in a solid leather sheath. My dad carried the original Ka-Bar in the Pacific Theater, but this lives up to it's name "Big Brother". If you are small framed and hands, find something shorter, there are plenty to choose from, or go with the original Ka-Bar. This is a great value for the money. No, this is not a multi tool gadget. But when you need to chop, cut or stab, this is the blade to use. A full swing, would chop a forearm off clean, yet the blade is not too thick. Full tang and rugged as the original, and somewhere in-between a normal knife and a small machete. In my collection of over 50+ blades, this would be the one to go to war with and still not break the bank. Heck, at this price, buy two.

Awesome Knife!!!
This is a very large knife. I was very pleased with the size(over 9 inches) and thickness of this knife. Ka-bar is the bomb. The handle is also very comfortable to grip. The leather sheath is also very nice and I think it is made good. I dont think it is cheap like some reviewers have commented. There was a Youtube video by someone who showed a large Ka-bar splitting another hollow handle knife and also cutting wood. This sold me on this knife. I have split wood with this outside and it will cut anything. It is very sharp out of the box. The serrated side is also sharp and saws good. If you are looking for a very well built knife for hunting this is it. Does not have the gimmick hollow handle for Rambo enthusiast(I have to admit, I am one) and in exchange you get a solid, well built, all purpose hunting/survival knife. Highly recommended.

A reliable companion
I am always iffy about purchasing knives online. I like to look it over and get a feel for the knife before committing to anything. When my knife arrived however, I was impressed. There were no faults in craftsmanship at all, and it came decently sharp. There were no nicks or bevels in the edge, and the ares of the knife that were meant to be straight were straight. The weight and balance of it equal that of the original ka bar, and it feels just the same in your hand. The serrations on the back are convenient being that you don't dull those hard-to-sharpen babies through normal cutting use. Its large enough to hack through a deer's ribcage, and subtle enough to gut a small fish. Any task I put this tool through I am confident it will excell at. 5 stars easy.
