Usage Instructions: To select the coarseness, rotate the adjustable washer. For fine grind, rotate clockwise and for coarse grind rotate anti clockwise. Put coffee beans in the top section and test your setting with a few turns of the handle until you achieve your preferred coarseness. Once all the coffee has been ground remove the ground coffee by opening the wooden drawer. Different coffee makers will require different coarseness. As a guide you can grind fine coffee for making Espresso or for filter coffee. Grind coarse coffee for use with French press or percolator. Care instructions: Clean the grinder using a non-abrasive brush or damp cloth. Do not immerse the wooden parts in water. First Use: On first use you will need to attach the grinding handle. Simply unscrew the screw on the top of the grinder, attach grinder handle and replace the screw.

Form over function?
**Update 20 June 2016**The seller responded and offered a return or replacement. So that's good. However, I had to wait for over a week for a reply to my emails (I sent a chaser) because they were on holiday. Also, another problem I noticed with the grinder is that a LOT of metal dust/shavings is accumulating below the adjustment knob, presumably because of the grinding action and soft metal (or possibly the coating which I mentioned in my original review) being used. This is inevitably also falling into my coffee; not cool. IMO this relegates the grinder to decorative duties ONLY.I don't have much reason to doubt the replacement will be any different, but I will nevertheless give a new one a try and update this review (again) when I have it.**UPDATE 7 June 2016**The grinder is now broken, just over a month after receiving it and using it 1-3 times a week. The part that broke is the little nut that holds the handle to the stem, more specifically the screw threads have stripped due to cheap metal being used, so now the handle comes off whenever we use it, and the adjustment locking tab will no longer lock as a result, making it all but impossible to grind anything. It's a shame, because the burrs themselves seem quite decent, though I cannot speak as to their longevity.I did send an email out to the seller over the weekend, and have not received a response yet. I will update this again when and if the seller comes back.**end update**I admit I bought this grinder mainly because of the looks. The star rating also helped, since there are quite a few other grinders out there that look like it.As far as grind consistency goes, this is pretty good, it's a lot better than my porlex knock-off for sure. However, there are a number of issues I have with this grinder:1. the ease of grinding is not as good as the knock-off due to the shorter handle and the shape of the grinder which is much harder to grip comfortably;2. the tiny tray cannot hold as much as the hopper, which means you have to empty it half way through grinding, and emptying the tray into something small like a moka pot funnel is difficult without half the grounds not going where you want; and3. the metal is coated with some cheap paint-like material, similar to the fake chrome you get on low quality plastic showerheads and the like, and mine already had a couple of small chips in the coating (and a moderately sized dent/scratch in the wood). I really don't want this to end up in my coffee, and it will flake off eventually, and reduces the life of the grinder for no good reason (uncoated metal would have been better). All of the above considered, I was tempted to give this a 3 star rating at first, but I do like the looks of this little machine quite a lot, and it doesn't fail to impress there, and neither does the actual grinding performance. Plus, taking into account the price, it is difficult to expect perfection, so I've given it 4 stars.

Nice and small
It's nice, and it works. It took me a little while to figure out how to adjust the coarseness, but I got that figured out quickly. For me it's just not big enough. It easily let's you grind enough for a cup of coffee, but to get enough for my french press I need to fill the little coffee drawer 3 times. Just wanted to point that out. Other than that it's a fine product.

Good for decoration
No dispute on how it looks. It stands nicely on any part of the kitchen. As a grinder it does its job: I was able to prepare a fine ground coffee for espresso and it tasted fine. The shortcoming is in the process of grinding the coffee.1. It is hard to hold on to the grinder while turning the crank. The position is awkward, I find no room for even a small hand to hold it, and at the end you find your palms with big marks for squeezing it too tight.2. It is messy. The little drawer in the bottom has to be constantly dumped and grinds are all over the place. A lot of it ends up under the bin.3. The nut that holds the crank gets lose very often. It is not only inconvenient to be checking on the bolt all the time, but the adjustment of how fine the grounds should be gets lost in the process.

Nothing like doing it the ol' way.
People think it's weird when I tell I grind my own coffee beans this way. When I have guests come over and I use this grinder while they're watching, they thought it was the coolest thing to see."Wow, you're putting a lot of effort into making our coffee!" Me: "Yeah, but it makes the coffee taste really good".

Tiny Coffee grinder
Cute little (I mean tiny) grinder. You fill the bowl and grind your beans. (stop when about half the beans are gone and empty the catch drawer). To grind enough for French press you will have to grind almost two bowls of beans. It works just like it's supposed to. The only thing I didn't like was no user instructions on haw to adjust the coursness. The one I have came preset for very fine (espresso fine) . I like it but it takes a lot to make enough grounds for one press of coffee.

Can't clean it.
It has worked well until now; but it worries me that there are no cleaning instructions. It cannot be disassembled except for the handle; which, if removed, will lose its place and you will not know which notch produces fine or coarse grounds. I bought this because there's not much more available in US, and the German one - Zassenhaus Santiago Coffee Mill Grinder - Mahogony - 156MA is quite expensive.

Beautiful and excellent grinder
Its beautiful, and most of that very reliable. I have tried different set for fine, medium and coarse grinding and all works ok. Adjust is totally manual loosen the top screw so, you have to try until you find your preference, but its easy and fun.It looks like an antique, with excellent metal quality and construction.I love it, and for the price is more than a gift.
