Conflicted
I sort of, kind of liked this book. Let Me explain. I love the writing voice of this author, how she so eloquently and heart-meltingly describes the hero's emotions for the heroine, who to my great delight is beautiful and resourceful (at least in the stories I have read by her), and in this particular book I very much enjoyed, that during the couple's amorous moments, Ms. Le Veque describes what heis feeling too, not just her, as is usual the case. However, I had a big problem with the story, SPOILERS TO FOLLOW: At the beginning we meet a happily married couple, but almost immediately he dies and she is left a grieving widow overwhelmed with sorrow. But only two days later she is already noticing the hero's broad shoulders. And after two weeks the reader is told that all that was left of their marriage (before her husband's death) was "warm comfort and little more" and she is definitely ready to move on. But for me it gets worse, she not only falls in love with someone else, but invites him into her bed, declaring she is willing to be his mistress and have his out-of-wedlock children, because she is so into him. Really???? After only two weeks of losing your beloved husband? Yikes!!!!! Why put the reader through such a heart wrenching beginning, only to have the heroine instantly get over him, I found her behavior so distateful that I could not get past it. I still liked the story enough, to give it 3 Stars, mainly because I am a complete sucker for a hero who is so committed and devoted to the heroine as this one was throughout the story. I also love it when the hero is instantly attracted to the heroine, regardless of how innappropriate it is.

WHILE ANGELS SLEPT: A Medieval Romance (Earls of East Anglia & de Lohr Dynasty Book #1)
Setting: England, 1139 A.D.WHILE ANGELS SLEPT was another poignant and unforgettable story by Ms. Kathryn Le Veque. I think I may have read this book years ago in some sort of boxset, but decided to refresh my memory since it's been so long. The beginning of this story was truly gut wrenching and actually brought tears to my eyes. Then there was Tevin and Cantia, both of whom were well fleshed out and very endearing too. And while their love story was utterly beautiful and passionate, I have to admit having a hard time reconciling myself to the fact that Cantia would hop so easily and willingly into Tevin's bed when her husband was barely cold in the ground. That and the fact that the story had quite a number of typos is the reason I knocked off one star. And although I did sense a deep and abiding connection between these two, I couldn't help but feel bad on Cantia's deceased husband's behalf. Other than that there were twists and turns aplenty as well as a cast of wonderful characters, along with a few despicable ones. There was even one cross-dresser, of which I've never come across in medieval times before, lol. In the end it was definitely a compelling and breathtaking tale set during a dark and turbulent era in England's history... One I won't soon forget and am very glad to have read =)Pages & Kindle Locations: The story itself contained 321 pages and ended at 92% and location 4989 on my kindle device. The remainder included an interesting author's note regarding ancestry and some of her other related characters, as well as an excerpt from RISE OF THE DEFENDER.

While Angels Slept (earls of east Anglia) by Kathryn Le Veque
I give 5 stars to this wonderful story. I loved to read in this book the references to several other Knights who are children of the Earl of East Anglia and their ancestors. Especially reading about the famous Knights of several other stories I already read and the way they interlaced.I would not recommend this book for the young reader as the description of the sex act is pretty explicit, but as an adult I sure enjoyed it. Kathryn Le Veque is such a great writer and her history knowledge of the medieval era is so fantastic .Thank you Kathryn Le Veque for the great reading.

Formidable hero
What a great story. I had never heard the term "While angels slept" to describe this time period, but how accurate. Tevin is a formidable man and like all great men, he is healthily feared by many but has a genuine side. The storyline with his daughter and wife were heartbreaking, but well written. I actually was not sure what to expect until it all came to a head. What I loved about this story was the introduction of Myles de Lohr! Tho a secondary character, it was fun to see where he began, as we all know where he legacy goes. It was fun to watch his early days from outside his story.

Living Through A World of Violance and Survival!
I absolutely adore this book and hope to read all the following books that link this story to a great epic series!!! The author has such a marvelous way of creating her characters like a painter reveals a beautiful sunset over the ocean in dramatic climaxing colors that simply amaze you and astound your senses at the same time!! She is artfully cunning with her plots and themes so carefully woven like a great tapestry through time!! She is marvelous at anything she plies her pen to no matter what the subject, and I totally look forward to anything and everything I can find written by her to read!! She's farther beyond GREAT and a writer NOBEL!!! Thanks, Kathryn, for all the hours of research and wonderful hours you spent in reeling your stories of historical romance!! It has been such a wonderful time of enjoyment to me!!Charlene Coburn

As always - brilliant
The queen of medieval stories. You don't have to know anything about it, just that it is written by Kathryn Lee Veque. Then you know you won't be disappointed because it will be brilliant. Life and death, despair and love, fighting and peace, followed by an ending which gathers up the loose ends to finish a truly good story.

Average read I am afraid
A nice innocuous little historical romance.I have to say the 'fiery passion' mentions in the book's description didn't come across too well for me.I certainly wouldn't dismiss this author altogether ... I can't complain too loudly; it was Kindle freebie.Full blog post (including any errors/bug bears) can be found on my Blog Post #410 in January 2014.
