Q: does it have buttons or zippers?

Zipper,then it buttons,velcro on pockets And adjusts on both sides for good fit,with buttons and small strap,about 3 inches long each side.

Q: Is this a heavyweight coat or lightweight

The coat is a tough lightweight coat - more like a heavy overshirt. Perfect for over a polo or t shirt. I have a couple and they are great for wind and drizzle protection. However when new they are very stiff - I tend to throw them through the wash 4 or 5 times prior to wearing - after that these shirts are a great bit of kit. sizing is generous too - go with your normal size and they will be loose but not baggy - great for concealed carry etc.
