Way to go Warners!
The picture and sound quality is magnificent. Ann Sothern is perfect in the role of Maisie. The DVD box set is crafted to ensure the safety of the DVDs, which are DVD-R format. Regrettably, I purchased my set directly from Amazon and they chose to pack it poorly and carelessly and the outer case and one of the discs got smashed. A friend of mine was with me at the time the package arrived and he laughed when he saw how careless the two box sets were packaged. So I was only able to watch a few of the movies, not all of them. When I complained to Amazon, they insisted they don't pack items poorly and their defensive action took me by surprise. So I was stuck with damaged merchandise. Still, of the films I did watch, the picture was superb even on a LARGE viewing screen. (If you want to avoid poor packaging, which is an increasing problem with Amazon shipments when orders come directly from them, you can buy this set from Warner Archive direct on their website.)

Glorious Black and White!
When I was a kid, way back in the...mumble, mumble...Ms. Sothern has two shows on TV. One was Private Secretary and the other was The Ann Sothern Show. That's how I became inthralled with this wonderful actress. In this set of films, she is still young...they were filmed before her TV shows...and she still very beautiful. Her comic timing is impeccable. One of the best comedic actresses there ever was, IMHO!If anybody wants to learn about the Golden Age of Movies...the comedies especially, please watch these movies. They are in Glorious Black and White and they are well worth the price of admission.NOW, if one of the power's that be would please, please, please release Private Secretary and The Ann Sothern Show to DVD, I'd be a very happy person!!!!!!!

Go get'em Maisie
It's a good movie you can watch with the family. Maisie keeps her act together when it comes to men. This is a fun set of movies from my Dad's past, and I'm glad he shared them with me. He's 92 :-)

Great Series of Movies
Lovely picture quality in all these movies (as well as Volume Two) and most enjoyable films of their day. Ann Sothern is a delight, although disappointed that she didn't get to sing and dance more in them, as she was good at both departments. Anyone who enjoys movies from this period will love them and the MGM budget for these is very high, as always, with plenty of big names in them. A great complete two set series of all ten of these films and a must to see.

Maisie movies - work in region 2 DVD players
I know that for some people these collections may be a problem, because sometimes they have region 1 DVDs, and they don't play on European DVD players, unless they're multi-region. For me it's never a problem, as I play DVDs with region 2 in the DVD player, and the DVDs region 1 on the computer, connecting the computer to the TV. But I know that for someone is. Well, with this collection you won't have problems, as all the DVDs play in my DVD player.Ann Sothern - isn't she great? So sassy and so funny! Love her character, Maisie, too, to bits!!! For those who already know and have seen some Maisie movies, there isn't much more to say. For those who haven't, well, what more can you say anyway? Ann Sothern plays Maisie, a girl who's trying to get in show business, so she's doing any kind of a job. For this reason, she has the chance of traveling just about everywhere, most of the times broke. That's when she runs into a lot of different people. Usually, there are the kind and loving people, then the rough guy, but she'll change his attitude soon, and then the heel (not just men) who thinks is the better one, but actually he/she isn't of course. I think my favorite movie still is the first one, with Robert Young. I haven't seen any of the movies that are in the other collection though. But I love any Maisie movie! Because... of Maisie I guess! The Maisie series was a very successful series of B movies made by MGM. As the Andy Hardy series was. What makes these series great I guess is the appeal of the characters, and the actors, and the fact that you can relate to them, or that you want to meet them and be part of their lives. It's really hard to regard them as B movies. Maybe the sets aren't as lush as the big A musicals and the storylines aren't as elaborate. But yes, to me Maisie and Andy Hardy are hardly B movies. They are A quality movies.Oh the only pin down about these movies is how the Warner Archive released them. Now really, how cheap can you get? I don't mean the package or the look of the DVDs from the outside. But when you put them on. There isn't even the scene selection! I mean, heck!! The only thing there is Play, and Trailer. No language selection (which isn't a necessity for English speaking people, but this makes movies unfamiliar to any other country! Not even English subtitles) and no scene selection. Even the menu background. You could use a fancy background right? Use the original poster, but not just put it in a tiny little corner of the screen like they did. And of course, no background music. I mean, okay, what I care most is about the movies. But gee, with all the money that I spend on DVDs, I'd expect a little regard and care for what I buy. And by the way, this collection doesn't cost too little either. At least have the decency of doing it good.
