Looks great
We bought this for our 5 year old as part of an “explorer kit” for Christmas. It looks amazing! It flips open like an old pocket watch, the face looks antique, and I’m happy with the quality. I can not speak to the effectiveness of the compass because our son uses it like a toy. But based on appearance, this is a very cool compass!

Decent novelty for the money
Real brass, heavier than expected, authentic antique quality. Lid mechanism does gently pop up when springy button is pressed. Needle really does point north, although it does tremble quite a bit. Certainly, I would NEVER seriously think of using this on any hike, trip, or emergency kit. It is suitable only as a teaching aid, novelty gift, or theatrical movie prop. Charming, and very much worth the money paid for it!

The media could not be loaded. Got this for my boyfriend for Christmas and he adored it! No problems opening or closing it. Beautiful finish.

Not a good BUY! The compass arrow was bent and not in center
From the outside it is a nice looking and nice weight compass but the inside does not measure up. My son needed an old looking compass for his frontiersman group and we thought this one would work. Upon opening the compass for the first time discovered the arrow is bent and not located on the pen in the middle. The compass is useless.

Good toy / learning tool
It’s not the greatest compass as the needles bounces quite a lot and has to be held completely flat, but it is a great toy / learning tool for kids when it comes to compasses and directions

Defective
Stem broke, indicator severely scratched. Attempted return but it won't let me. I'd accept a replacement, but that doesn't seem to be an option either.
