Did lose me a chicken breast...
Finally got some BBQing weather to try out the thermometer. Tried it on some chicken breasts I cooked out on the grill. I wish I had remembered to get shot of thermometer actually in the chicken for my review, but at least you can see how perfect the finished product looks!Pros: InexpensiveLength of probeEasy to readCons: cheap packagingVery basic, no settings for doneness on thermometer for different types of meatOverall value: 4 starsGreat, inexpensive thermometer. Fee days earlier my dad had made chicken and cooked it way way too long. It was dried out. So much that when I was making some more chicken on grill few days later, nobody really wanted one. Ended up their loss. Chicken was perfectly cooked thru, juicy, and no dryness today! Good value to make sure you get your meat to right temperature and don't get sick. The plastic sleeve covering the thermometer is flimsy. Not a heavy duty all bells and whistles type thermometer giving you doneness of the meat. But at this price point, it's a great purchase to simply make sure your meat at right temp. Will recommend highly with keeping that in mind. Honestly, it's all you really need unless you are much fancier griller than I am. Served it's purpose well, except I lost one of the sandwiches to my mom after she had a bite. Done just right, and juicy after day before she got stuck eating worlds dryest chicken quesadilla, hahaha.

LOVE my new Thermometer!
I love this easy-to-use thermometer! I'm considered to be quite a cook by friends and family (one friend even showed up at my house for dinner with Tupperware because she wanted to take her leftovers home, much to her husband's chagrin). However, I've never splurged on a thermometer before because of the price, and my relative infrequency of use. I just couldn't justify the splurge, since it's not an item I use often, as we don't eat a lot of meat, so when cooking them, I always cut into meats to check for doneness, and put them back to cook longer if needed. But this little gem makes the process SO EASY and AFFORDABLE! When I received it, I wanted to try it out immediately, but wasn't cooking anything at the moment, so I thought I'd try it out on my super-expensive gourmet electric tea-maker, that claims to use a separate temperature for each type of tea (black, green, herbal, etc.). I thought perhaps the expensive tea-maker was just making a mockery of me and taking me for a fool by pretending to have different settings for different teas...l, but NO! The water temperature actually changed upon different settings! The thermometer is easy to use, and though it came with brief instructions, it's a no-brainer: stick it in whatever, and wait a few moments, and the temp will appear. It seems quite sensitive, as the temp came down immediately after removing it from whatever I tested it on. It comes in a flimsy tube for storage; I wish it were more substantial so it would last, but it's adequate. The length is great because you can stick it in a roast or chicken, for example, and not worry about dirtying the face with grease or sauce. I'm so happy, and can't wait to try a recipe that says, "Insert a thermometer to check for doneness...."

Pretty good for the price
You'll definitely be able to get the thermometer deep into the food you're cooking as it's about 6 inches long (insertable length). It seems to register relatively accurately. When I opened it, it was already showing a temperature. So apparently it can measure ambient temp as well (which I'll admit is handy)It comes with a battery, which is nice. It takes an LR44 button battery.Okay, I found the 'instructions' fallen on the floor from when i opened the container. The measurable range for this is -58ºF (-50ºC) to 572ºF (300ºC). I have no real way of verifying the accuracy of the range, but I don't assume many people reading this will be going that high or low.The 'hold' button (top right) will lock the currently displayed temperature. Max and Min (bottom right) will display what the lowest and highest readings were. It does switch VERY easily between ºF and ºC (literally the press of a button). The buttons seem a bit flimsy--one of mine keeps getting stuck until I un-stick it with a fingertip.Ultimately, for 8.99 it's not a bad deal. If it had been the listed retail of $47.99 there is no way I'd be keeping it.

Handy for Smokers. Meat smokers that is.
I am an avid smoker (of meats) and as any pit master will tell you. Temperature is the key. My smoker has a built in probe already but it's a little tedious to move my thermometer between meets especially after there foiled up in a Texas Crutch. That's when I began looking for another cooking thermometer and stumbled upon this. I'll try to keep this short and to the pointPros:- Long: The thermometer is much longer than the one I have in my smoker which allows it to take measurements in my deeper cuts of meet like boston butts for pulled pork.- Cleanliness: It's very easy to clean and the casing for the electronics part is good and doesn't leak.- Accuracy: Just for kicks and giggles I compared it to my other thermometer and it matches up pretty good. It was nearly identical with the built in and my other externalCons:- Time: it takes a little time for the thermometer to get to the right temperature as some other reviews have mentioned. It's not an instant read.
