Mikasa Swirl White Oval Serving Platter, 14-Inch

This was paired as a suggested item with the 36 piece bone china mikasa swirl- the platter was stoneware- not bad if that's what you want- but I returned it and ordered the bone china platter directly from mikasa.

The plate is very simple. No complicated painting, prints, shapes. The swirl design looks great. I purchased this to complete my swirl dinnerware set. I'm very happy with the craftsmanship and quality.

This platter has an elegant appearance that would go well with most quality sets of dishes. The ridges give it a nice texture, while the overall design remains simple and understated.The finish has a nice gloss, but is not overly shiny. The platter is solid and feels durable, like it won't chip or crack too easily, but I hope not to test that theory.My only issue with this platter comes with packaging. The Amazon box arrived, and within that box was a flimsy, plain cardboard box in which I found the platter. There was no wrapping around the platter. The generic box had a tear down one seam and the platter was peaking out, so it easily could have been chipped in transit. I would not buy this as a gift, mainly because there is such poor packaging that it does not present well. I've included a photo of how it looked upon arrival.

Very nice. It feels high quality. The swirl pattern of this platter adds interest, without color. The pattern is satin, while the center of the platter is glossy. The satin edge is neither glossy not matte, and is a bit unique, which is nice.Note that this is a smaller platter. Platters come in many sizes, and your typical dinner plate is 10 1/2 - 11". (The plate in the photo is 10.5".) A 14" platter is great for routine use, but for a Thanksgiving turkey, unless you go with a small one, you'd need a larger platter. This platter can be washed in the dishwasher or used in the microwave great for everyday. It does not say oven safe, though. I have noticed that most dinnerware used to be oven-safe routinely, but lately, oven-safe is harder to find.My platter has a a small but quite noticeable flaws in the finish, which is why it gets 4 stars. Mikasa is a higher-end brand and I would have expected better.

This is a lovely serving platter but for the price, it's not exactly what I had imagined. In my opinion, it looks and feels like a very casual piece of dinnerware. The platter itself has an unusual matte like finish, the design/swirls were a bit more heavy handed than I had expected and there is a texture that I can't quite describe... the finish/glaze itself feels textured, it doesn't feel like an intentional part of the design.That said, I do think this makes a lovely every day serving piece and will definitely get a lot of use from me in serving main dishes; grilled or baked meats/fish or vegetables. It definitely appears to be a sturdy piece. Not something I'd worry about getting easily damaged from regular use.

This looks like a classic plate but it is so much more. The design lends to any decor and the size can be used for small or large displays of food. I expected it to be heavy, but it is not too heavy and not too light - I sound like Goldilocks. But this simple looking platter is the go-to serving piece for casual or more formal dining.

simple, beautiful, goes with everything. Very light weight but sturdy. Got black and white bowls and platters to mix and match....so much fun!
