Anker USB C to Micro USB Adapter has spec compliant CC termination! A fine little adapter for your old USB A-to-MicroUSB cable
Benson here again, continuing my reviews of USB Type-C legacy cables, adapters, and accessories. Today I am reviewing "Anker USB-C to Micro USB Adapter" by Anker. This comes in a convenient 2-pack.Let's check spec compliance :I'm using my trusty Chromebook Pixel 2015 with the Chromium Twinkie USB-PD Sniffer, available on Amazon from Plugable : Plugable USB 3.1 Type-C (USB-C) Power Delivery Sniffer For my first test, I've got the Anker MicroUSB Adapter plugged into a good quality (itself capable of >2.4A) Micro-B cable from Belkin. (this one: Belkin 6-Foot 2.0 USB Type C (USB-C) to Micro USB Charge Cable, USB-C Certified ) . That is then plugged Apple proprietary MacBook charger capable of 5.2V at 2.4A.The Type-C end is plugged into Twinkie, acting as a pass through to Chromebook Pixel 2015. Picture attached!First let's run the ectool command from Pixel's command line to check what Pixel thinks is happening on its USB-C ports :localhost ~ # ectool --dev 1 usbpdpowerPort 0: SNK Charger Proprietary 4744mV / 2400mA, max 5000mV / 2400mA / 12000mWPort 1: SRCSo far so good. Pixel identifies the charger as a Proprietary type adapter, and has negotiated 2.4A.Let's see what Twinkie (the USB PD sniffer) says :> tw ccCC1 = 22 mV ; CC2 = 434 mVThe tw cc command reads the current voltage values from the CC pins. As you can see here, CC2 pin has a value of 434mV. Referring to the USB Type-C Specification Table 4-25 Voltage on Sink CC pins, this voltage falls right in the middle of the range allowed for vRd-USB, meaning that yes, this MicroUSB adapter has the correct 56kΩ pullup resistor! One more command :> tw vbusVBUS = 4818 mV ; -2450 mAThe tw vbus command uses twinkie's current and voltage meter ability. As you can see, the laptop is pulling just around 2.4A of current at 4.818V from the Apple adapter. For a HighSpeed USB 2.0 data test, I’ve hooked my Nexus 5X to my Chromebook Pixel via the Anker MicroUSB adapter + Belkin MicroUSB cable to test large file transfer via MTP. It just works, no problem! Now for more subjective judgments of this adapter : The Anker adapter has a black glossy overmold with the Anker logo on it. The whole thing is very small, barely larger than the Type-C or Micro-B connectors on both ends. The Type-C plug on this adapter is a very unique for a Micro-B adapter because in typical Anker fashion, it uses a very good quality plug made with a deep-draw extrusion process. The plug is a single continuous piece of metal all the way around, meaning it's stronger than other stamped type plugs. This type of plug is the same kind that is used on all of Google and Apple's Type-C plugs, and the quality shows here.In conclusion : A high quality charging and data sync MicroUSB Adapter from Anker! The adapter is a great safe way to breathe new life into your old A-to-MicroUSB cables for use with newer USB Type-C devices such as Nexus 6P/5X or Pixel devices. It is also future proof for fast charging USB Type-C devices to come!

Another great product from Anker!
I got this product to use with my Nexus 6P. I currently have an array of additional chargers (mostly Anker) but most of them are micro USB, of those some of them have hard wired cables, and others would work with an new USB-A to USB-C cable. I wanted to essentially convert my chargers to USB-C as easily as possible.Pros:• Cheap (Cost not feel)• Quality construction• Built to spec, some of these devices can harm your device, but this passes the test (CheckR).• Micro-USB end has a perfect fit, you can hear and feel a click when plugging in and it is solid.Cons:• USB-C end jiggles a bit.• The additional rigid length it adds makes it easier to accidently damage your charging port.• Doesn’t take advantage of higher amp chargers (power IQ, tablet chargers). So like I mentioned, these adapters are cheap to buy, 2 to a pack, and only $9, as well as the quality is stellar, they are built to USB-C spec and will not harm your devices, and the Micro-USB end makes a really solid connection, though the USB-C end jiggles a bit. The added rigid length that it adds worries me that the weight exerted on the charging port, especially using a heavier cable, can cause the port to wear out fast, since it the fulcrum is stationary, but the length increased. It also make using the phone while charging a bit more annoying. Now to the part I cared the most about, with this adapter, you I found various charging speeds, typically max at ~1.2 amps, though the charger supports more. Using my tablet charger, which charges any typical Micro-USB device between 2.1-3 amps, it only charged the 6P with the adapter at 1 Amp. Using an Anker PowerIQ charger which gives out 2.1 Amps to a micro-USB device when it is the only thing plugged in only, charged at 1.2 Amps. It really got funky with older Anker chargers which have separate “Android” and “iPhone/Apple” ports. There I found that it charges at a max of 1.2 on the “Android” and a max of 750 mAh on the “Apple” port, but sometime it would require being unplugged and plugged back in to the “Android” port to get the max.All in all I say buy it. It converts all your chargers quickly and cheaply, for the amount of chargers I have, I’ll need an extra 2, and will be able to leave an adapter on permanently. Due to the minor cons, and the fact that you lose the ability to take advantage of faster chargers, I’m deducting 1 star.I received the product for free in exchange for my thorough and honest review.EDIT: I ended up buying more to convert all my cables and chargers. It's been working out great for these past 4 months, but the adapter and the length/rigidity it adds just bothers me. Not going to deduct stars as it's not a bad product. Just personally annoying for chargers that I use on a daily basis, or when I'm charging and using the phone.

Works
UPDATE: I got 2 packs of these for a total of 4 adapters. 3 out of 4 are working fine. But 1 gives me fits. I've changed the USB cable and the charger to isolate the adapter as the problem. It just doesn't work properly. My phone will charge 10% or so then stop charging until I unplug and replug in the cord. If I try to use the phone it can actually lose charge while plugged in. But I only get this issue with 1 out of the 4 adapters that I bought. So they aren't foolproof, but when they do work they work great. The other 3 are working perfectly fine. They lost 1 star for unreliability.ORIGINAL REVIEWThese work exactly like they are supposed to work. They don't turn every cord and charger into a QuickCharge system, but they do convert any micro USB cable into a USB C charging cable. They will turn a micro USB cable into a Quick Charger cable IF and ONLY IF you have a Quick Charge plug to plug your cable into AND the micro USB cable is a quality cable. This will not work with super thin junk cables. (Tested with a micro USB cable and LG QuickCharge 2.0 charger)This is the perfect cheap way to convert my extensive system of USB plugs and cords in my office, car, and various rooms of my house into function USB chargers without replacing all the cords and plugs (which costs a lot more)You don't get the quick charging feature doing this, but it will charge your USB C device the same way the cords used to charge your micro USB devices...slowly but surely.Plus if you have micro USB devices still in use in your house like I do as well, you still have all the charging cables for them plugged in. Just remove this adapter.

What's not to love about these!
I bought this product to turn my existing micro USB cables into potential USB C type cables for my new phone, the One Plus 3. Rather than buying new cables, I thought this would give me the flexibility to travel with just one cable which charges both my device (with the adapter) and my wife’s device (without the adapter). Plus it’s a good back up to have in case I misplace my original USB C cable.Having said that, the product arrived in a really nice small package, with both the adapters lying flat in the plastic cut out package. I have actually retained the packaging as I find its best to put the adapters back in this while travelling. This way, they are less likely to be misplaced or lost, given how small their footprint is, and they remain safe as well.In terms of usage, the product works exactly as I would have liked it to. The micro USB cable fits nice and snug into this adapter, and in return, the adapter itself plugs nicely into my mobile phone. Both the connections are solid, and there is no chance of accidentally unplugging the charging process. In the morning, when I’m sleepy and not really paying attention, I have tried to unplug the thing by just tugging on the charging cable (which is wrong, I know!), and it simply ends up unplugging the cable from the adapter, meanwhile the adapter remains plugged in to my mobile phone. The tugging actually takes a bit of force, and it still doesn’t unplug the adapter from the mobile phone itself, which is a testament to how well made the product is.The price might seem a bit steep, but like another reviewer said, this is Anker. I have used their products previously, and their quality and reliability is top notch. Given that I will be using these adapters so much for many months to come, I think it’s worth investing in a reliable brand, which Anker definitely is.Oh, and lastly, as mentioned before, the adapters are quite thin and sleek. Other reviewers have added photographs, so I won’t add my own, but their pictures are not misleading at all. The adapters really are that small! Hence I decided to retain their original package as I think that’s the best way to story them when they are not in use!Overall, 5 star!

Make use of your microUSB cables with this very small and handy adapter
Another fab product by Anker. Not much more to say on this item other than it does what it says on the tin. They are small and light in size so can easily fit in your wallet. The connector is nice and snug, and does not feel flimsy. The casing is plastic which keeps it light. Seems to charge my OnePlus 3 just fine. Of course it does not allow fast-charging but charges at normal rate. Works fine for data transfer as well. OTG does not work via this device. Some kind of rubber sleeve with a loop would have been nice to have so you can attach it to your keys or something, as they are so small I can see myself losing or misplacing it quite easily.Overall a must have device for anyone who has a phone/tablet using type-c and wishes to make use of their microUSB cables. Also worth just have it with you as most places/houses will have a microUSB cable lying around somewhere, but not necessarily a type-c cable, so its good to just have in case you ever need to charge. Highly recommended!!!

Great product.
Great product idea and very useful in day to day life.I have a single charger with USB C end and so use this to charge my phone with my old micro-usb chargers (including my car charger). Works well. Doesnt charge as quickly as the proprietary USB C charger but has not caused any problems with over-heating or data loss.Only issue can be the very small size. You will need to keep it attached to a charger or it might get lost easily. I have the black coloured ones and it can seem easily lost.

Does not transfer data
The product arrived promptly. It fits nicely with a Nexus 5x and allows for charging all be it at a slower rate. However my reason for giving two stars is that I cannot transfer data between the phone and pc using the adaptor.**UPDATE** Since leaving my review Anker customer service made contact with asking if they could send out replacements as the first pair I received may be faulty. Obviously I accepted. After a week Anker made contact again to check if I had received the replacements, I had to inform them that I had not received anything to date. They then said they would send another set as I should have received them, which I did a few days later. I am pleased to say that the new adaptors work well. The main reason for the Five stars is the outstanding customer service, it really was surprising and appreciated.Thank you Anker.
