suites our needs
I have a 15 lbs Shih Tzu who had Back surgery about 2 months ago, with all of our Dr. appointments and therapy appointments whe had been going to i figured this was a a good option for us rather than useing the wire kennel in the back of the van. I liked it right away because at first he couldn't walk well and would slide around on the floors so we could roll him into the clinic if there was a long waite period he would get heavy to hold. As he got better it's just nice that i can use this carrier as a carseat in the seat of the van and he can then see me (he is much happier this way).As far as room there is plenty of room for him to lay down or sit up in the carrier. He seems fine with it, as i have even cought him trying to crawl into it to nap.I don't think i would use it as a backpack though, since he would get bounced around.. But as a rolling carrier, or carseat it works wonderful. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the backpack handles do tend to get in the way of rolling, i used a zip tie to tie them together and keep them up out of the way.

Small dog approved!
My dog absolutely loves this. He mainly uses it as a protective car seat so he can safely ride shotgun with his mum. It has a wonderful calming effect on him. He’s totally relaxed from the second he hops right into it. Often he seems reluctant to exit it unless he’s told to ‘come.’ I like that he can comfortably sit upright or stand and turn all the way around with its vertical configuration. It’s well designed and extremely utilitarian for on-the-go dogs and their loyal people. Note: My dog is around 20 lbs., give or take. I wouldn’t recommend this carrier for dogs weighing more than 25 lbs. without trying it out first.

Measure your sizes. Pics deceiving. Great quality!!
Bought the extra large traveler and let me tell you it is huge. So if you have a bigger dog who likes extra room that would be the size to get. My thick french bulldog liked the room. However, you could never use it on an airplane or actually carry it on your back. I did not buy it to carry on my back anyway but was worried it would not be considered a carry-on for the airplane. My dog is allowed on the plane, out of a bag, because he is a service dog but I wanted some thing in case he got tired, in the huge airports, he would be able to rest. So I needed it to be the size of a carry-on suitcase and the extra large traveler is fatter and wider than a carry-on suitcase allowance-not quite as tall. I was afraid they wouldn’t let me carry it on the plane so I returned it. However it was a great quality in a smaller size would probably be OK for my needs. Again it was awesome quality though. I’ve always loved petgear products

Perfect solution for a non-tiny dog
Our dog is roughly the size of a cocker spaniel, and fit very nicely into this carrier. The wheels and retractable handle make it far easier to bring our pet on train trips. We have not attempted to use it on an airplane; as we have the XL version, I'm pretty sure it exceeds the limits for airline travel. It does come with shoulder straps to use as a backpack, and a long over-the-shoulder strap, which would be helpful in traversing stairs or very bumpy terrain for short periods of time, but it would be very uncomfortable with a larger dog such as ours for any length of time. You may find that train staff will give it a second look - as in the "upright" position it's far taller than Amtrak's guidelines. The XL version technically exceeds Amtrak dimensions (19" long x 14" wide x 10.5" high), but nobody has ever tried to measure it. When one employee did question it, we showed that we could lay it on its side, and it looked close enough that the employee didn't push the issue. I don't think it would fit under a seat; you could probably put it in the overhead carrier with a little help but I'm sure your pet would not appreciate it.There are outside AND interior pockets, which are useful in stashing small necessities.

A good,l versatile carrier.
These are excellent carriers for our use. We have two small breed dogs that fit perfectly in the carriers. The carriers are light weight, easy to secure in the car (I can fit both of them in the passenger side of my small sports car - one on the seat and one on the floor), and the fact that they're on wheels is a plus. The dogs can sit, stand or lay down comfortably. There is an internal clip that you can clip to their harness or collar, so you can leave the front screen open if you want to without worrying about the dog jumping out.Our puppies are not heavy duty chewers, but I could see where these carriers might not hold up to a rambunctious dog. The fabric and screening likely wouldn't contain it. Even for our dogs, I would never leave them unattended in the carrier for long.EDIT: We have had these carriers for 3 years now and use them regularly to transport our now full-grown pups (one 10-pound, the other 15-pound). When not in use, we store the carriers in an unairconditioned garage. The carriers remain in excellent condition. The zippers, stitching, lining, screening material and sides have resisted wear and dirt and look virtually as good as new. I was a bit concerned when we bought them because they are soft-sided. However, they have held up very well and I expect we will continue to use them for years to come.

Overall spacious and great for the road
Would like if it had all 4 wheels instead of 2 so I could be more like a rolling suitcase whereas the 2 wheels make it kind of hard to easily roll the carrier with the pup inside other than that good for road traveling and big enough for my cocker spaniel mix

Old dogs can go everywhere!
We have a 14 year old bichon. He’s still very active but cannot go for longer than 3-4 kilometres on our hikes. This backpack has been perfect for him. It’s spacious for him (he’s about 15 pounds). We did need to put a pad in the bottom for more comfort. The only thing I’d change about it is having a strap that also goes around the waist to take pressure off the shoulders. Very happy with the purchase!

Almost a good buy... but needs improvement
As mentioned by others, it needs a middle strap to secure it better on your back. Also needs padding on the back to prevent the roller hand bar extension bar from hurting your back when in use.

An easy way to transport 2 cats at once.
carrier works like a wheeled suitcase. It is large enough for both my cats at the same time. I have had to find a small lock because they learned to push the zipper open when they want out.

Perfect for the animals on the go
Exactly what I was looking for. Convenient and easy to use. Wish there were handles on the sides for easier lift out of the vehicle, but besides that, works well. My cats don’t seem to mind them.

Great as a carrier not so much as a backpack
This is fabulous for sitting nicely on the seat for trips, but its a bit broad and awkward as a backpack. I found it too uncomfortable. But as a carrier its terrific.
