Incredibly fun, strategically complex
Oh, wow, this was a wonderful surprise. What a gem! Once our family learned to play it it became a protracted war with constant pleasant surprises from allies and dastardly deeds from our enemies. It's incredibly nuanced with many different tactics and stratagems. There's ways to undermine your opponent, which can actually backfire in your face, and sometimes having a ton of mystical beings in your stables doesn't guarantee victory. Immense fun, but it also tests how good of "sports" the group is because WOW this is a beat em up, knock em down kind of experience. It'll be good for our kids to teach them that loving the game and play is more important than winning.

Great Value - Many Ways to Win!
A fun, witty game sure to elicit laughter amongst your family and friends. The game has great value as there are many ways to strategize in the hope of securing two unicorns in your stable and thus winning the game. Another perk of the game is the ability to rather seamlessly add in extension packs to be able to introduce more characters to the fold.

Fast and easy to learn game
The game is quick and easy to learn. My 13 year old niece liked it as well as my wife, so it appeals to a broad age range. The game itself is OK and can be completed in about 30 minutes.

Fun, quick, family game, perfect for time together
The media could not be loaded. I received this game specifically to write a review. That said, I try to be honest and open in all my reviews.(Please see the enclosed video.)All in all this is a good, quick, family game that has high replay value. It encourages strategic thought and planning. There is no objectionable or political material in the game. (Thank you for that!)Summary: Magical Unicorn Quest was originally a Kickstarter that is produced and distributed by Flame Point Games. The game takes 10-20 minutes and is for 2-6 players, ages 8+.The game begins with each player receiving six cards. On you turn, you draw a card (or two if your hand is empty) then you play up to one mystical being from your hand, up to one mystical potion from your hand, and as many mystical magic cards as you care to. Mystical magic cards can be played at any time though. So, it is good to save a few to thwart your dire adversaries (er, ... friends). On your turn, you must activate one special power per mystical being type in your stable. (In other words, mystical beings of the same type "stack" in your stable and are activated once per turn.) The cards tell what each being, potion, or magic effect is. Really, the whole game is written on the cards. All of the effects are very straightforward, and once you do a quick run-through, everyone will understand the rules.Once a player has both a majestic unicorn and a golden unicorn in his or her stable, the player is victorious. Yeah!On to the Dr Games’ Criteria …GO/NO GO Criterion• Complexity: (GO) the game is not complex. The handy reference cards are a quick way of referencing the actions you can take each turn. The key is reading the cards and understanding what each effect is. This is not a hard, thinky, thinky game.• Balanced: (GO ) The game is completely balanced.• Chance (GO) The game is a good combination of chance and skill. For the youngest players, for the first few games, I recommend taking out the "unicorn thief" and the "ogre" cards. It will make it easier for the younger strategists to plan their plays in advance.• Clarity: (GO) The rules are completely clear. Really.• Reasonable Time: (GO) The game plays in ten-twenty minutes. Perfect.Bonus Criteria• Social: There is nothing inherently social or not social about the game.• Unique/Interesting Mechanics: The cards are fun, and there are many interesting combinations. Even our youngest players were scheming and cackling with glee as they unleashed their nefarious unicorn capturing card combinations.• Informed: Not so much with this game.• Rewards Throughout: No, there are no points in the game. The player wins when the Golden and Majestic unicorns are in his or her stable.
