Very useful tool
This product was easy to use and provided a high degree of safety to examining and working in a horse's mouth. I am just learning how to float my own horses teeth and this device made getting in there safely a breeze. Now I only have to worry about the technicalities of the floating and not getting bitten or hurtung the horse. I use a small amount rhompin IV (Your Vet can do this for you if you are not comfortable doing it for your own horses) *Note only a VET can administer to other peoples horses so don't do it for others. This device is a solidly constructed stainless steel with leather straps. It includes the tooth plates and an unusual addition of the leather covered plates to hold the horses mouth open using the gum area just behind the front teeth and in front of the rear. I have not used this yet. There is also a top and bottom strap and I removed the bottom so I just insert this as if I were placing a bridle on the horse and then I tighten the strap behind the ears with my left hand so that the tooth plates are tightened in the correct position I hold them in with my right hand. Very short learning curve on this to get it just right.

Horse Mouth Speculum
We purchased this product to use as a back up in case two of the vets in our practice needed a speculum at the same time. The bite plates are not magnetic for those that like to use the magnetic light. We only used the product twice and during the second use the "metal" lever on the side that holds the horse's mouth open broke. I had my hand in the horse's mouth at the time and feel lucky my hand is not broken because if both sides broke at the same time, I probably would not be so lucky. Of course, since I purchased the speculum more than 6 months ago I cannot return it. Do not buy this product if you plan to keep your dental equipment and hands intact. I am simply appalled that I paid $175 for a product that did not last more than 2 hours of use.

Very very very good customer service
Very very very good customer service. When they break they will replace them no questions asked. Great folks to deal with, but the quality of the material is poor and will last just long enough to slam shut on your hand.... again great folks to deal with.

Horrible quality!!!!! No matter the cost, NO price is worth losing your finger!!!!
Firstly, I am an experienced veterinarian and feel I am qualified to evaluate this speculum appropriately. I purchased this speculum over a year ago and have since invested in another. Yes, this speculum came at a spectacular price, but you get what you pay for, and when your health (and hand) is involved, it is not worth being cheap!!!! Immediately at the time of purchase, I had issues with the speculum closing down on me when the horse put any pressure on the mouth pieces (which they do!). I immediately contacted the company to explain to them the issue and that I was very concerned about the malfunction of the speculum. Having the speculum close on you when you have your hand in the back of the mouth is VERY DANGEROUS AND UNNERVING!!! They reported that they have only had positive reviews on the speculum, and seemed annoyed at my warnings at the dangers. Seeing other negative posts, I know I am not the only one. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, IT IS UNSAFE!!!!!

crapper
They made me mark a star. Zero!!!! Manufacture flaw. We used it 5 min and it broke near the pin and spring. While my husband had his hand in his mouth checking his teeth. Just glad both sides didn't break. It could of been a terrible wreck or a lawsuit! Now we have to find someone to weld it since we had it three months till we used it can't send it back now!
