A Sugar Creek Christmas: A Sweet Romantic Comedy (A Sugar Creek Novel Book 1)

A nice escape read
5 stars because I genuinely enjoyed listening to this audiobook as I worked around the house. I thought the story line and plot was well thought out. This is a Christian read. This story didn't have sermons or sciprture passages qouted. It was more apart of some of who the characters are so it did sometimes flow into conversation or mentions. I think an underlying theme of knowing your divne worth was presented in a way that was subtle yet strong. In paraphasing I like the line: What a difference it make when you know your true identity and where to properly look for it. I think both the h and H were stong characters. I liked stepping into a different place and time. I think the author captured and held my interest great with the nice flow & story, characters and dialogue. The narrator did wonderful.

Noah and Emma
Such a sweet story between to these two. Once engaged, their careers took them on different paths. When Emma returns home those feelings rekindle.

Quick joyful read
I've read other books by Jenny B Jones, mostly young adult but I just love the spunkiness of her writing. This was a perfect quick Christmas story, right before Christmas. On to number two in the series.

Amazing
I very much enjoyed this. I'm not usually a second chance love person, but this one was done very well. It was super cute, well written, and full of Christmas spirit. I highly recommend!

Just Like its Title, this Novella is Sweet as Sugar
After taking some time off from the title of author (one she owned nicely), one of the funniest ladies blessed with the gift of prose, is back. The second book to publish from Jenny B. Jones this year, this novel is the first in her brand-new series of novels that explore a new genre for the author. But, more on that later. First, the story goes…STORY: Emma Sutton is one of the rising stars at her morning TV gig. In fact she’s on the fast track for an anchor seat, only her chances revert to start after an on-air “bah-humbug” moment. This sidelines her, and she’s charged with trying to find a warm, fuzzy Christmas story to air at Christmas. She finds just the thing in small-town Arkansas where she accepts an event planning job, and runs into her ex, Noah.*A Sugar Creek Christmas, by Jenny B. Jones | Book Review*Ever since reading this lady’s Save the Date, I’ve been a fan. Since then, all her novels went on my someday mental-TBR. I’ve yet to complete her Katie Parker Productions series (something I feel badly about) and am prompting myself to do so in the New Year. No excuses. Until then, this darling Christmas story will thoroughly sweep you away, even if, yes, it's a different kind of Jenny B. Jones book.Instead of infusing her stories – or at the very least drawing a distinct line, in Christianity, Jenny goes outside the “safe” normal and amps up the chemistry. Emma and Noah are a great couple to boot. I enjoy their banter and romance. Emma does everything in her power to ensure she won’t get hurt by love (all from a childhood emotion) while ironically, Noah is in many ways was too.He keeps his distance from Emma because of their past, a past he believes will repeat. Emma’s work ethic is a barrier between them and Noah is disappointed that she doesn't see how unimportant that life was, both draw them apart. One of the best pros for this story is the characters having a history. Novella style tends to almost require that for a love story to feel authentic. Keeping true to her brand of funny while stepping outside the “safe” comfort zone, A Sugar Creek Christmas is a sweet story. It’s one that is easily read (unless you read like I do) in an afternoon, and for those of you still wanting a Christmas read, consider making this sugary confection part of your holiday.Content: there are a few “questionable” scenes and moments that are a bit suggestive, depending on the reader. Nothing is graphic though and would be a solid “PG rating” or mild “PG13.”

Comme ci, comme ça...
The author is clearly an experienced writer & does it very well technically. The plot is pretty much cookie cutter Christmas fare. Still, predictable is fine when a story is engaging enough. And sometimes this one is but a lot of times it's not. The biggest difficulty is that even though the characters are sympathetic & likeable, they're pretty flat.Emma's pique at her dad feels superficial. We find out why she's upset with him, but we're never drawn into her feelings. All I kept thinking was that she was stuck in her childhood grief & was long overdue for finding a good therapist.Noah is so coldly angry, but then switches gears fairly quickly without allowing the reader to see what thawed his heart. I did really like the scene where Emma asks his forgiveness & he gives it to her, though. It was simple yet very well done. The other difficulty is that It's trying to be both a madcap comedy & a tender 2nd chance romance, but that creates conflicting moods which frequently bump against each other thereby ruining the mood & jolting me out of the story. So this is my first introduction to an author who many of my reading friends have told me is one of their favorites. I can see her witty way with words but not so much with plot & character development. Still, even the best of authors can have an off book - one of my favorites has written dozens of books - and 3 of them are truly awful. This one isn't bad just kind of superficial. I'll definitely give some of her others a try.*Romance level: passionate kisses, nothing graphic (approx a PG rating)
