Q: Does it need to stay full submerged in water or can it grow in a vivarium?

Star Moss can be grown both ways, fully and half submerged.

Q: about what size is this in inches?

It was tiny and only a couple inches. I don't recommend it. I ended up throwing it out shortly after purchasing it.

Q: Is this a freshwater or saltwater plant?

Neither, this plant will only live in freshwater for roughly a month or so until it dies. Star moss is not a true aquatic plant

Q: What is the Life span?

The piece i received was on the small side with little growth, ive had it in my tank about 4 months now and it is growing slowely, to answer your question id say w the right environment it will grow indefinitely
