He's Way More Famous Than You

Did not like it...then liked it
A NYT film critic recently observed that there's just WAY TOO MANY independent films out there now! [This is one of them]. Used to be that was where anything really DARING was done. With big-studio films costing up to hundreds of millions of dollars, obviously they do not want to take a chance and flop [yet somehow, they still flop]. Now independent films rain down like a hailstorm and the critics cannot keep up with them all.Hence it's very easy to overlook "He's Way More Famous Than You". Yes Halley Feiffer stars as a worst-possible version of herself. One wonders--is it true; is she REALLY that desperate to get noticed that she's willing to degrade herself like this? Is this funny, or pathetic....or is it serious? There is a serious story at the bottom, and one that any fan of the arts knows all too well. It's a story about how many entertainers and artists have addictions and/or mood disorders. For me, one peak moment of the film involves Feiffer and her brother pitching their "concept" for a movie to a panel at Sundance Film Festival (or whatever it's called in the movie) which includes Jesse Eisenberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg. Awkward, stupid, hilarious, touching, all at the same time.In the movie [unlike in real life for so many, like Phillip Seymour Hoffman recently] redemption is possible. So, it ends on a positive note. But don't be deceived by the caricatures; there is serious stuff at the heart of this small work.

I'm not sure what I was supposed to see
I'm not sure if it was supposed to be satire or comedy. I didn't think that it really succeeded in either. The film had an "intentionally hokey" feel with many over-the-top, awkward and disjointed scenes. Maybe I wasn't the target audience, but I did not enjoy this film.

Funny and original
Such original film. Indie. I love films where actor plays himself. Characters are annoying but funny and very dark jokes. I love American actors and creativity in filmmaker. A few famous people in it but mostly actors who do theater.

Horrible vanity project
Not sure what Halley Pfeiffer hoped to get from this but it does nothing but make her look awful. if there's a joke somewhere, I hope it's on her. Excruciatingly terrible film and an embarrassment for everyone involved.

Laugh out loud funny!
If you don't have a good sense of humor than this film is not for you. However, if you enjoy watching one awkward moment after another than this is for you! I laughed out loud...more than once! Even the songs will make you laugh. Can't wait to see it at the theater next month!!
