Good household drill
I'd replaced an old drill with an expensive, heavy hammer drill. Manly as it was. I also wanted something like this for small, quick jobs, and this was the ticket. The hand chuck is good- at the risk of stating the obvious, keyless chucks can sometimes be problematic. I've owned this a few months, drilled quite a few holes, and recommend it.

Not variable speed
Great drill for drilling only, this is not variable speed. For drilling out screws, bolts, working with wood, installation of door hardware, all of that, this is a great little tool. I bought it for the speed and amps, works as intended for that with Cobalt bits. Now hopefully B&D will pay attention and correct their product description because it's wrong. 4 stars due to it being incorrect.

It is not variable speed.
The trigger does not allow the drill to speed up as you pull the trigger. It goes from off to full RPM. This makes it useless as you cannot start the drill slowly. Same as a screw gun zero to full RPM strips the screw or over torques it. I called Black and Decker hot line and they said the drill is not supposed to act this way. Trigger squeeze should control drill RPM. I have never seen a drill operate this way. So I returned the defective drill for another one. The replacement drill did the same thing. Not variable speed by trigger control. Returned this as well.

Works quite well with a few minor problems. The forward reverse switch tends to slip out of forward and has to be pushed back into place. I had an older B&D half inch drill where switch had to be continually held in place. I had hoped they had corrected that. Also, the keyless chuck some times loosens.
