Her voice was all Saturday night, delivered on a Sunday morning. Patsy on Jesus. Elvis without the pelvis. Fern Jones' only album, released by Dot Records in 1959, captured 36-year-old Sister Fern as she anointed church music with the same untamed energy that younger white Southerners were bringing to their Rock'N'Roll. The Glory Road's sound gnaws at the bit and stands in reverence, a runaway rockabilly tent show without a single drop of rain on the horizon.

All Gospel All The Time
This chick does nothing but rock with soul. A white Sister Rosetta Tharpe, without sister Tharpe's guitar, but nothing else is lacking. Great backup section - Outstanding!

Fern Jones - Glorious and Inspired
Fern Jones shows us how it's done. Constantly compared to Elvis, this dame can sing! Almost all folk-types were god-fearing back then, so don't let the religious aspect scare you. If anything, it gives it a kitsch feel that anthropologists and music-lovers alike can enjoy. I especially enjoy songs like "Didn't it Rain," and "I Was There When it Happened." Also, the release is on a great label, so support the dying music business and buy this CD!

Unfulfilled promise...
If Fern Jones could have sung the blues, country & pop songs she REALLY wanted to sing, she'd have been another legend. These rare recordings of country religious tunes swing & rock, thanks to Fern's soulful delivery.
