POWER / SWR METER CB Radio 100 Watts w/ 3' Jumper cable - Workman SWR3P & CX-3-PL-PL

This meter arrived packaged very well and worked perfect right out of the box. The included cable was an added perk and the instructions on how to measure standing waves were a help in tuning my antenna. I would recommend this meter, a good value for the money.

Pros: Metal casing, solid construction, looks nice, performs well. Cons: VERY POOR INSTRUCTIONS for testing field strength, unit doesn't sit level on a table and rocks back & forth each time you touch it. There was a VERY loose nut inside the unit that I had to tighten, NO ILLUMINATION for night time use, cheap jumper cable included.Okay, now here are some tips on making this a better purchase. First, if you want to test field strength, do some research online. All I've found so far is that this unit uses the "Bridge Method" to measure Field Strength. Second, while there is no illumination, there is ample room to add it yourself. Simply tape a LED over each meter, u will need to either install a battery inside the unit to power the LED's or use an external power supply. In either case you will need a toggle switch to turn the lights on/off. Third, if your unit has an uneven bottom like mine, you can mount the unit under a shelf to make it more stable and easier to work the switches. You will have to loosen the nut holding the tiny antenna and lay the antenna horizontal, then re-tighten the nut. With the antenna out of the way, the unit will now sit flush under a shelf. You can remove the outer case, drill a couple holes, then screw the case in place under a shelf, then slide the unit back into the case and secure it with the 2 rear screws. You can also install the unit on top of a shelf by drilling two holes in the bottom plate and getting them snug enuff that the unit doesn't rock back and forth. But this unit looks much better under a shelf as it hides the coax well. I would have given this unit 5 stars but the crappy directions alone are enough to take a star away. Everything else is a manageable annoyance and most problems are easily resolved with some HillBilly engineering. Finally, replace the included jumper cable with a better quality jumper.

This is a piece of junk. I wish I could be more expressive, but those words aren't allowed on Amazon reviews. If you like struggling for hours trying to tune your antenna and then in the end, not being able to have any confidence in the SWR readings you got, then this unit is for you.Both meters lack the low friction bearings that one would find in a affordable SWR meter from say, Radio Shack. This manufacturing shortcut that saved maybe 25 cents makes them very "sticky" and utterly unreliable. The case is made well enough and I can't find fault with the connectors, coax, adjustment knob, etc. You can't expect silver plating at this price point.In my case, BOTH meters do not return to zero after reading anything above 3/4 scale. You have to tap them with a finger to get them to return to zero. Being the cheap, Chinese junk that they are, there are no zero adjustments on the meter face itself. The shortcuts don'tt stop there. They seem to be friction fit into the housing because just handling this unit, if you put any finger pressure on the flimsy meters, they feel as if they want to cave into the unit.Learn from my mistake. My advice for any of you seriously considering this unit or anything else made by this manufacturer: Google Radio Shack 21-534. You're not going to escape the Made in China quality lottery at this price point, but at least you'll have something that works remarkably well for the price.

well its a bit cheep. it works . and its a ok meter. would not get it again. not because it did not work cuz it did work but don't really need it unless u r using a base station or you have a old radio with a new whip.

I was very pleased with my purchased, real easy to use and was a very good price, recieved very quickly, not much more to say, except if you are looking for a tester to get you up and running quickly, just buy it, it well worth the time and money.

Ok, it's likely someone buying one of these already knows how to use it, but why include instructions that are worthless? And who wrote these? I mean they are REALLY bad. Use these instead: [...]Very happy with the actual product though, and the price. Included is the jumper, which is nice.

I am an old RADAR maint. man (USAF) so I'm no stranger to the problems the Standing Wave Ratio can causeon transmission lines. I picked this unit for it's ease of use and other reviews. It was not a mistake, it does everything necessary for good performance

Overall, the swr meter worked as designed. I was able to tune my antenna very easily and with accuracy. This was not the least expensive meter I evaluated, but I am glad I selected this unit. it came with the additional cable, so I did not have to go looking for added parts to make the unit operate. The price was fair and appears to be a good quality unit, for the price.If you need a unit that will work well and is compact, this is it. The meter can be permanently installed, but I did not need that feature. It stores under the drivers seat, so if I need to readjust on the trail, it is right there. I would purchase this unit again.

The Workman SWR3P & CX-3-PL-PL seems to be working as advertised. No problems with understanding the brief enclosed instruction paper. The only confusion was the on the intruction manual that kept mentioning a left and right switch. There is a left and right metering gauge but no left or right switches. The only switch is centered between the SWR meter and the Power meters on the front panel and it is an up & down switch. The order was received in a timely manner and arrived non-damaged.

Le power/SWR fonctionne très bien, j'ai inscrit 4 étoile, car je trouve le produit trop dispendieux en comparaison de celui d'autres marques. Par contre, je dois dire qu'il est très précis et que je suis content de mon achat.
