Wolf of Snow Hollow, The (Blu-ray)

Loved it! Nice twist to some classic horror elements
Not sure even how to explain it, especially with no spoilers. A unique werewolf tale with some classic horror themes (and character missteps in horror films). Great film to get your mind off the craziness of the world and crack a laugh or two.

Jim is 2 for 2
Similar to Thunder Road, The Wolf of Snow Hollow expertly juggles comedy and tragedy, but this time around, Jim has thrown horror into the mix as well. I cannot wait to see what he does next.

This Film is Unwatchable
I really don't know how or why anyone with a functioning brain thought it would be a good idea to create this disaster of a film. Writer and director Jim Cummings, wherever you are, you need to move into another field of work. You literally caused me to be emotionally and physically angry with your garbage movie!Spoiler alert: it's not a werewolf movie! It's not even a campy B-movie that doesn't take itself seriously, but is worth the watch anyway. This film has absolutely no value to it.Nearly every aspect of filmmaking is poorly executed, from beginning to end. What I found particularly offensive was the incredibly jarring editing. It's like some psychotic person was told to quickly edit all the footage, in no discernable order, for reasons unknown. The lead actor is writer and director, Jim Cummings. And I must say, after watching his performance, that it is an actual microcosm of this incredibly ill-gotten film. His character is grossly unlikable and downright offensive. He comes across as someone who is obviously unfit to be a law enforcement officer.I agree with others who brought out how there is too much focus on this awful person. As a result, no other characters are allowed to stand out in any meaningful way. Not even the presence of the late great Robert Forster could add any value to the film, from an acting point of view. There are too many scenes that just devolve into a series of manic, angry expressions and behavior (mostly from the male characters), that distract and irritate you. It's painfully obvious that the writer has no clue how actual police officers comport themselves, either in public or private settings. There are just too many things to criticize this film on.As far as story goes, there is barely any cohesion of the plot. The same thing can be said of the sound editing, and the extremely annoying music in the background. It just droned on and on, from one scene to the next, with zero regard for shifting tones in the story. Combine this with the lousy editing and it comes off as clumsy and amateurish.I'm extremely annoyed that I rented this movie. It doesn't even deserve the six-dollars I spent to view it. I don't frequently right reviews for all the bad movies I come across on Amazon, but I just felt so compelled by it's awfulness. If I can save another soul from making the same mistake I did in watching such garbage, it's all worth it.No reasonably sane person should waste one second of their precious time on this tragedy of a film. And for certain, no one should waste a dime in support of it either. You have been warned!

Deceptive Marketing, Lukewarm performance
I gave this movie a chance despite a typical plot basis, because even typical plot basis can work with spins...but I don't want to watch a movie that ends up being about a man in a costume deceiving everyone into being a monster when I look for monster movies. Definitely not worth $15 and the humor wasn't great; just an angry sheriff screaming obscenities while trying to solve a murder case. Humor is dry, boring. This whole movie's boring save for a few okay moments (and thus why it's not 1 star). But seriously, if you're gonna market a movie as a monster movie, quit making it to be something it's not. There's enough dumb cop thrillers, I don't need more where the werewolf is just a guy in a costume.

a good movie but definitely an odd bird... er, wolf
I dug the trailers and what the few people I know who'd seen legit sneak previews told me, and so I shelled out the $14.99 for it. That's about what I'd've paid to see it at the local cinemas, if any were open anymore, and so I can't much complain about the price. All that said, this movie does well what other horror movies lately haven't, and that's put run a family melodrama in a horror movie and not have it contaminate and screw up the movie. And it does it weirdly... or oddly... maybe somewhat unevenly, but interestingly enough, it's the concurrent arcs, including the family stuff, that make it just work out. Our protagonist is uncomfortably funny and rather unlikable and for a very distinct, very human reason. Also, everything doesn't work out just fine for everyone, and things aren't all tied up with a bow at the end, but enough progress is made for the central characters to make it satisfactory. Nor is there some laboriously telegraphed faux-twist ending. In short, it's a horror story about people. It's structured well, written well, and performed well, though its... let's say "quirkiness"... isn't everyone cuppa tea, as is evidenced by some reviews. I dug it. I'm not unhappy with the ticket price. I don't lament the time I spent watching it, and I didn't fast-forward through parts, both of which are more than I can say for a lot of movies, horror and otherwise. 3.75, really, but rounded up to a 4 because Amazon. And lastly, RIP, Robert Forester. -- 4/5. Recommended.

I enjoy Jim Cumming's acting/directing in this and Thunder Road
I loved Thunder Road so much that I watched it a second time the other night after seeing it a couple of years ago (it's free on prime). I then looked for his other movies to see if I'd like anything else he's in and found Wolf of Snow Hollow. After reading some of the critical reviews, I almost decided not to watch it. I'm glad I gave it a chance as it was well worth it! Wolf of Snow Hollow had a similar feel to the movie and FX series, Fargo, but with a lower budget (suspense/dark comedy in a small snow town). When I saw he plays a cop in both, I thought the character storyline might be redundant. It was not at all. Sure, he plays an emotional cop in both films, but Thunder Road is a family drama comedy that had me laughing and crying throughout the story, whereas this suspense-horror movie had me on the edge of my seat, engaged in the storylines, and included occasional dry or dark humor. Also, although both films show day-to-day stressors faced by many good, albeit flawed cops, each portrays this theme in a unique way without excusing corrupt cops or perpetuating a false notion that all cops are good or all cops are bad.I wish this film was longer so that more time could have been spent on the back story about the main characters’ relationships, which seemed to be edited out. I look forward to Jim Cumming's future projects!

Blu-ray Wolf Snow hollow
Película de humor negro con misterio que va tomando forma poco a poco al final fue un agradable entretenimiento. El blu-ray cuenta con subtítulos en español.

Entertaining!
This movie had a bit of everything to make it a great entertaining movie. It has a Fargo like quality with a bit of Silence of the Lambs near the end. A bit of horror, drama, dark humor all rolled into one which made for some good entertainment. The Blu-ray quality as usual was crisp and clear.

Entretenida
La historia de hombre lobo con algo de comedia y terror me pareció muy diferente a lo había visto anteriormente, no es excelente pero si bastante entretenida
