If you're new to working with Ethernet cables, this is a great kit to start with. Everything included is cheap and kinda crappy, but it works nonetheless. This is even something I would recommend as a gift to the technically-inclined in your life, because it packs everything you need in a case small enough to just throw in the trunk of your car and have handy for whatever Ethernet emergencies you might encounter. Or, if you know someone with a small business who needs to do his own network maintenance from time to time, it's a good Ethernet First Aid kit that has everything but the cable to fix most physical issues.

I'm really pleased with this tool kit. Below are some notes I wrote to myself so that when I go back to use it again it will remind me of how I used everything and which tools I preferred using from the kit.Stripping the cable sheathing: I tried using both the yellow Ubigear stripper and the MultiCond stripper (the small gray one that looks like a clamp), but neither one worked well. They both nicked the wires inside the sheathing. I instead used the pair of red wire cutters to strip the sheathing. I noticed later that the gray MultiCond tool had a screw at the end. I probably could have used that to adjust the cutting depth. It would be worth experimenting with.The Blue Ubi Gear cable tester is great. Make sure the 9-Volt battery works before you use it. Plug each end of the cable into each end of the tester (it slides apart), and it will tell you via the lights if it works or not. If one of the lights doesn’t flash on (in order), then that indicates where there is a problem.When using the yellow UbiGear multi-tool to cut, remember that the side with only ONE blade is the cutting side. I’m not sure what the side with two blades is for, but it never cut the cable all the way through.The slots at the end of the UbiGear tool are used to crimp down the ends of the plastic cable connector when building a cable so the connector doesn’t fall off. The 8P is for Ethernet cable. (I assume the 6P is for phone cable.)Punch Down toolsThe kit came with two punch down tools…a gray one with a red cover over the tip and a beige one with a scissor shaped cutter. I preferred the gray one because it cut more consistently. The beige one, however, had a great hook that popped out in the side and I used it when inserting the square bolts into the server cabinet. (Seriously awesome that it was built in!)It would have been nice if they'd included a bubble level, but other than that, the kit had everything I needed!

You get what you pay for basically. It’s good enough for the basic networking stuff. I mainly got it for my home network relocation for cable modem and wireless router. Just wished there was a coaxial equipment so I could shorten my coaxial cable.

I picked this up as a quick travel kit in case I needed to do some fast networking work for my company (which wouldn't be too often). Would say it gives you the basics of what you would need for this task, plus the case has enough room where I was also able to include a 62-in-1 screwdriver kit and have it all fit in there.I didn't have to try the crimp tool or wire cutters at all, but the cord tester did verify a bad Cat 5 cable we had so it was nice to have a double check besides the obvious swap out a cord and see if it works.If you're doing more than just light networking work I would invest in a larger toolkit, but if you're just doing stuff at home or need something for light travel, I would say this is a good pickup, along with a screwdriver kit with some extra heads (though this does come with a standard flat tip and phillips head).

Pros:-One stop shop, nearly every tool you'll need to easily and successfully create and test cables-Cost/value, way cheaper than trying to buy all tools individually-All of the tools work as intendedCons:-the cable ends are the push-through type. this is great for beginners but an annoyance for anyone else as it just adds an extra step of having to take a razor blade to the end of the cable end to cut off the access wires. they also will not click into place of any ports I have tried. cisco switches, routers, firewalls, APs, devices, servers, you name it.. even if you bend the tab outward to try to give it some grip.. nothing. totally abysmal, throw them out.-the crimper works as intended, but is visibly slanted (saw other reviews and it appear it's common). it's a bit worrisome, and I wonder if it will eventually stop crimping correctly. it also doesn't give an audible click when correctly crimped, so you basically just have to crimp until you cannot compress the tool anymore. not the most reassuring.-the wire stripper could not be adjusted to strip cat6 correctly at all. I have the same exact style at work and have used them repeatedly. I had to back out the adjustment screw and use a longer one I had laying around, then adjust the screw holding the actual razor, now it works like a charm. not a big deal for me, but would be annoying for most, and a non-functioning tool in a kit is not good.Overall:The kit is not perfect by far, but it is undoubtedly the best bang for your buck. grab a 30mm m3 screw for your stripping tool, throw out the cable ends (and order your own), and just make sure to compress all the way down with the crimper. Most of the other tools on amazon are the exact same parts sold separately for more, so unless you plan to spend a premium on better tools individually, it's worth it to pick this up and deal with some of the slight quirks of the kit.

Its funny, i went to home depot and got the Klein crimper after buying this because the shipping took forever. The crimper that comes in this is exactly the same as the Klein tool, it just doesn't say Klein. Everything else is a little bonus, the punch is ok and the tester is ok. Its a nice little set for the DIYer, if you do network installs as a pro, get pro tools.
