what a wonderful book for memories
I am old and unable to travel far now but Yellowstone is one of my favorite places on earth. I seldom buy coffee table books, but this looked interesting so went for it. It has given me hours of enjoyment and I am so grateful. If you love the out doors and wildlife please consider this book. It is truly special.

A must-have
This book is a true must-have for any nature lover, as well as fans of the American West. Not only does the author take you out into the open spaces of the prairies and Rocky Mountains with her stunning photographs, there is also ample text included that elucidates the history, almost-disappearance and comeback of the American bison and concomitant Native cultures in great detail. The main focus thereby is on present conservation efforts, with intriguing insights into the landscape of state-of-the-art bison ranching and preservation measures. At the lext level, there is also an appealing inclusive approach that includes a broad spectrum of voices, from conservationists to historians to Native Americans. Personally speaking, the only wish the work fails to address is an indication of where the photos were taken and/or what they show, respectively. I'd have loved to know whether the sweeping vistas surrounding a herd of bison peacefully grazing in an awesome vale depict the Blackfeet Nation Bison Range, or Yellowstone National Park, or a part of the American Prairie Reserve, for instance. However, this hunger for detail might be a personal quirk of mine, whereas others might be completely satisfied with the visual representation itself. Anyway, overall, I am most content with "Bison - A portrait of an icon" and would feel ashamed to have this piece of literature missing from my library.
