This Culinary Mandolin is well built and is made of sturdy stainless steel and solid plastic. As an engineer, I'm impressed with the excellent construction and ease of use. Over the years I have always wanted to buy a mandolin but was actually afraid of them because of the horror stories I've heard of sliced fingers and mangled hands. Youtube is replete with this type gruesome videos. Recently, I relented, bought this one, and was immediately glad I did so. Out of the box, the blade is a knurled slightly and needs sharpening; I did so with a very small file and simply removed the knurling. Then, I used it to slice almost three pounds of cucumber for use in Alton Brown's "American Pickles" recipe. It worked great. I'm also impressed with how easy the slicing task was, the uniformity of the slices, and that I finished in just minutes as opposed to much longer with a knife. I did notice that a small amount of residue is created from the cucumbers and a certain amount of bruising of the vegetable if the blade is not sharpened. After removing the knurling It does need to be sharpened and I plan to buy a thin, very fine, wet stone for that purpose. Next, I used it to slice three pounds of ginger for a "thepioneerwoman.com" pickled ginger recipe. Again, worked great. With the cucumbers, I used the thickest cut, and for the ginger, I used the thinnest cut. Very easy exchange of thickness guides and very easy cleanup. Finally, I highly recommend this mandolin with a cautionary warning. Mandolins are very dangerous if used improperly and should never be used without the safety guard. When not in use, always use the blade cover. Next, Chinese mixed vegetable pickles!

I absolutely love this thing
I've just gone on a binge and bought a bunch of cooking supplies, and don't know where to begin or end reviewing them, so I'm going to do it all in one fell-swoop, and copy them all to each one. I ordered them all together, and my first effort was to make vegetable soup, using all of new devices for the first time. I'll t try to make it clear which one is relevant to each review.First, the CULINARY COOKING TOOLS STAINLESS STEEL MANDOLINE SLICER WITH V-SHAPED BLADE & EXCLUSIVE STORAGE SAFETY GUARD:I'd never used a mandarin slicer before, and was nervous about it. All the reviews were scary, about sharp blades and sliced fingertips. I started by slicing carrots, and about the third carrot in, I was thinking about how hard it might be to return this thing - it was ridiculously hard to slice the carrots! They kept just wedging up and I barely had the strength to push them through. I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't even consider that that whole V-design was there for a reason. I was aiming each carrot right at the V, not thinking to use the length of the slicer. Once I figured that out, I sliced through all the carrots so quickly that I can't imagine using a knife again. I proceeded to onions and zucchini and celery and tomatoes and green beans (yes, if you hold them in a bunch, it works) and celery and zucchini, it made quick work out of them all. The learning curve was ridiculously quick, one I realized the aiming for the "V" was the wrong approach, I absolutely love this thing. On to the NOCRY CUT RESISTANT GLOVES:A few of the reviewers for the aforementioned slicer said that these were essential. They were right. I hated the holder that was supplied with the slicer, and didn't use it at all, opting instead for these gloves. A couple of times, when I got down to the nubs of the vegetables, I heard the gloves hit a couple of times, but there was absolutely no damage to the gloves (or my fingers). I can't recommend them highly enough. The worst thing I can say about them is that they were stained by the carrots. That is the fault of the carrots, not the gloves, and one run through the washing machine removed that.On to the ZYLIESS CORN STRIPPER: If you've ever tried to strip corn from the cob using a knife, you'll wonder how you ever got along without this thing. It's got a slightly curved blade that just fits the corn precisely. I stripped through six ears, literally, in less than a minute, without wasting corn or stripping cob. It's one of those utterly simple things that just works so well that it seems underpriced. Finally, the INSTANT POT IP-DUO80 7-IN-1 PROGRAMMABLE ELECTRIC PRESSURE COOKER:I was so scared of this appliance! I kept thinking that a pressure cooker can be used as a bomb! I read and re-read and re-re-read the directions, then thought, Just Do It. And I did. I put a dab of butter, and all my onions and beans and carrots in, and set it on "sauté" to soften them. Then I added in my corn and zucchini and celery and tomatoes and corn, set it to "soup," and let it do it's thing. When it beeped that it was finished, I tossed in some of those little pasta stars and set it to "sautee" for about ten minutes, uncovered. I ended up with the best batch of vegetable soup I've ever made. My advice for anyone buying this pressure cooker is, just don't be afraid of it. It really is so intuitive that you can just leap right in. It won't let you hurt yourself, and again…my vegetable soup has my family in awe.I could go on to the vacuum I bought from Amazon that cleaned up all the veggies I shot onto the floor while learning how to use these other appliances, but I think I'm done here. I give a five-star review to every one of these items.

Nice Slicer
Love the product in itself. You will have to use it a couple of times to get the hang of it. I've only used the slicer a couple of times. I tried to do the slicing over a plate but it is easier over parchment paper. The blade is nice and sharp and the guard works well. I wish it came with a bag to hold every thing because there is a lot of pieces. My problem was with Amazon. I didn't receive the first one I ordered and tried to have them send another one. Instead they refunded me the money. I ordered it again right after but by that time the price went up so I had to pay more.

Good quality, works great-Get some large Bandaids.
WORKS GREAT, ALL of the directions say to use the holder during slicing. I was slicing crooked neck squash, which the holder didn't fit, was doing great until I saw the blood. Took 2 slices out of my palm. Washed it put it back in the box and gave it away.

A versatile kitchen tool every home chef must have.
I wanted to make Scalloped potatoes and didn't have the right kitchen tool. The food processor went too fast to make even slices so I searched Amazon for a good Mandolin. I selected the Culinary Cooking tools mandolin because of it's high rating, multiple slicers and seeming durability. I am pleased with my selection. I've used it every day making a variety of fruit and vegetable dishes. I satisfied my craving for scalloped potatoes and the thin, even slices were perfect for my recipe. My kids love apple sticks and apple chips and I love how easy it is to make them and the only waste is the core. I also used recipes from the ecookbook included with my purchase. The hash browns and baked potato chips have made potatoes a new favorite in my kitchen and given me a healthier alternative to fat and salt laden potato chips. As for the cutter, the Culinary Cooking Tools Mandolin is built around a sturdy base with comfortable dimensions. The s/s blade is razor sharp and makes clean, uniform cuts. The included hand guard allows me to slice food completely with no waste and, more importantly, without exposing my fingers to sharp blades. I give this kitchen appliance five stars for exceeding my expectations, providing an outstanding value for the price and the extra feature of an ecookbook. The only thing I would add is a removable slicing blade making it easier to sharpen when necessary. - The Happy Home Chef.
