Review of the, “The Reformation Heritage KJV Study Bible in Genuine Leather.
Review of the, “The Reformation Heritage KJV Study Bible in Genuine Leather.I requested a review copy quite some time ago, and was refused. This is why it has taken a while for me to do a review of this Bible. Recently I purchased a copy, at my own expense for the purpose of review. I was curious about this Bible because of the title. I am a Reformed Baptist. I hold to reformed soteriology. Since I affirm believer’s baptism, or credal baptism, I cannot be said to have Reformed theology proper, as that would include infant baptism, or paedo-baptism along with some other theological distinctions. This Bible came shipped by Amazon in a cardboard box with no padding. One of the corners of the retail clamshell box was dented. The Bible inside was undamaged. When I first examined the Bible I didn’t notice that some of the pages were folded under and failed to be trimmed with the text block. I had to trim them myself with an exacto knife. I contacted Reformation Heritage by e-mail. It has been several weeks without a response. I was waiting to do the review because part of my e-mail had to do with questions about this Bible’s manufacture. I wouldn’t let their failure to respond stop you from purchasing this Bible. This edition has a genuine cowhide leather cover and not pigskin leather. On the front cover, “Holy Bible” is hot stamped in gold color foil. The texture of the leather seems to be natural and comfortable to hold. this is a case bound Bible. It is not as high grade as some, but far exceeds many lesser quality covers on Bibles in the same price range. This Bible lists for about $80.00, but I purchased it on sale for $55.88 from Amazon. You would be hard pressed to find a study Bible with all of the features this Bible has for the same price. We are talking about an American printed and bound Bible with smyth-sewn spine, cowhide leather cover, unique study notes, creeds and confessions, notes on family application, and numerous articles in back along with a concise concordance and maps. This Bible is only available in the King James Version. (KJV) It is a verse format, double column, layout with notes at the bottom of the page. Before each book is an introduction and outline of the book.A sharply printed and uniformly inked 9.8 pt. Minion Font is used for the text of the Bible, and 8 pt. Myriad SemiCondensed Font for the notes is employed. The page margins are pretty small, so you won’t be making many notations in them. The page edges are gold gilt. The corners are rounded, the spine is not.Since this Bible employs a sewn binding it lays flat without having to fight the binding or cover. It is pretty flexible. There are gold and burgundy head and tail bands as well as two narrow yet, substantial black ribbons. The ribbons are both fixed in the spine at the same place making them a bit awkward compared to others that are glued in differently.I truly like the paper used for the presentation/records section in the front and the maps in the back. RHB made the best decision of not using the glossy papers that crack. Instead they went with a thicker matte paper that will last a long time.I would have liked to see a thicker, more opaque paper employed, however, to include all of the features in one volume without making it a behemoth like the ESV study Bible, I can understand why the chose the paper they did. Don’t misunderstand me, the paper isn’t bad. It is just a little less opaque than I would like. Ghosting isn’t bad at all and it appears that line matching was employed. For the money, there aren’t many full study Bibles on the market that could compete with this one. I highly recommend this Bible if you are a fan of the KJV, and historic creeds and confessions. It is an all around solid study Bible.ISBN: 9781601783264

Excellent Reformed Study Bible for personal devotions and family worship.
Excellent Study Bible for personal and family devotions. Although I will read certain modern translations of the Bible, I prefer the KJV because it was the first Protestant Translation I ever owned (having been born into a Roman Catholic family) and because I read the Douay Rheims translation in the Bishop Challoner revision. I rather like the use of "thou" and "You" rather than the modern grammatical simplification of the English language for scripture reading because using both denotes whether intimacy or formality is indicated by the scripture passage. Of course, I don't speak or write this way. I also own the ESV translation which is used for The Lutheran Study Bible, a copy of the NASB translation, and also the NKJV which is used for the New Testament in the Orthodox Study Bible. I still own a copy of the Challoner's revision of the Douay Rheims. Why did I pick the Reformation Heritage Study Bible over Reformation Study Bible published by Ligonier Ministries? They are both excellent study Bibles. Both would receive 5 Star ratings from me. In fact, several years ago I purchased an earlier edition of the Reformation Study Bible, which I ended up giving to someone who needed a bible. The Reformation Study Bible is an excellent study bible for students especially. The newer edition has even better commentary than the previous edition, and includes the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith in edition to the creeds and confessions included in the Reformation Heritage Study Bible. The latest edition of the Reformation Study Bible is the result of improvements going back to the New Geneva Bible. The Reformation Study Bible has withstood the test of time.Yet, the Reformation Heritage Study Bible has features that make it attractive for family worship and devotional study. At the end of each chapter of each book of the Bible there is a section called Thoughts for Personal / Family Worship. This helps to stimulate meditation and contemplation of the chapter that has just been studied. A similar feature exists in The Lutheran Study Bible. Also, the topical articles in the Reformation Heritage Study Bible appear to be more for family devotional study. Thus, the Reformation Heritage Study Bible is designed to meet the needs of the New Christian or a family, while the Reformation Study Bible is designed for the advanced student. For those who don't want to deal with modern Bible translations, where there is a need to engage modern Higher Criticism, the Reformation Heritage Study Bible offers the traditional KJV translation. If finances allow, I do intend to eventually purchase the Reformed Study Bible NKJV edition that will be available next month from Ligonier, but for me personally, the Reformation Heritage Study Bible KJV translation is one I regularly use.

Great Quality, Decent Content
First of all I will commend the quality of this Bible. The Dollaro leather has a nice feel to it. It won’t roll up like Goatskin or Calfskin and it does feel stiff, but it certainly doesn’t feel cheap. The pages are very opaque and there is very little ghosting. The binding is Smyth Sewn and it opens flat in Genesis. The gold gilding is fantastic as well. Overall the quality of the Bible is superb. You can upgrade to a cowhide or goatskin cover with art gilt edging, but the price is significantly more than this particular version. This is great quality for 75 dollars. The font size is 9.5. Very readable and I love the page layout. There aren’t any references which is dissapointing. The notes are more devotional than doctrinal and lack the information of most study Bibles. However there are plenty of reformed doctrine in the articles and there are a ton of articles. The creeds in the back will be helpful to some. For a study Bible this one isn’t very big. It is very easy to carry to church. It is a good compromise of printsize, information and overall size. While this may not be my favorite bible I do recommend it for devotional purposes.

Very good, sound blurbs and introductions to the books of the Bible and helpful points for discussion from trustworthy reformed authors. This is bigger and heavier than I imagined but I hope it will be well used.

A study bible that will enhance your understanding of the Bible
This is large print study bible text and notes,it is easy to read as the print is no light like MacArthur study bible, text ok but study is light and I find difficulty to read the light print. The price I paid was £90 and it was a bargain for such a luxury bible.Thr study note clarify the antiquated English. If you want a large bible this is a highly recommended and the notes is easy to understand.
