The 5.56 NATO MAX gauge (also know as a 5.56 NATO Field) is used to measure the maximum allowable 5.56 chamber headspace. If the bolt closes on the MAX Gauge it is considered unsafe headspace and should be taken out of service for repair. This is the 5.56 spec 1.4736" gauge, and not the SAAMI .223 Remington.

Essential for any 5.56 build
This is what you need in a 5.56 AR build! Really fast shipping. For 5.56, only use a GO gauge and a FIELD gauge. A .223 NO GO gauge is too short for a 5.56 because of the slight differences in the neck of the cartridge.
