Brother Ramon's call as a Franciscan
The first part of the book gives an overall description of Br. Ramon life from childhood to to his call to follow St. Francis, and then his life as a member of the Community. The second part relates parts of his writings to following Christ - how he saw the call of Christ, and how he was able to help others through his writings. A really fascinating book, and very well written. It shows Br. Ramon as a really human being with all our faults, but a recognition of them, and ways to begin to overcome them. He cites the 'Jesus' prayer as being a great help to him, particularly when he lived as a hermitI congratulate Arthur Howells on his research.

A SAINT FOR OUR TIMES
This is an excellent little book which is both simply written yet also utterly profound as Fr. Howells opens to his readers the life of Br Ramon - a saint for our times. I knew Ramon when we were both members of SSF only he stayed and I left. My first encounter with him was when he visited Glasshampton at a time when he was discerning whether to join SSJE or SSF and I recall talking with him in the vegetable garden whee I was working. Unfortunately I can't remember anything of the conversation! However, what Fr Howells writes and the style in which he wrote it not only brought him vividly to mind but also inspired that 'quest for holiness' and I can hear Ramon speaking encouraging words. So I want to thank Fr Howe;lls for what he has written and hope that many discover Br Ramon's profound 'way of holiness'.
