All Goodly Sports: Complete Music of Henry Viii

I suppose Henry VIII is known mostly for his bloody reign and his six wives, but the man was a talented musician. I'm so happy that I now have a CD of music written by him. It was a bit difficult to locate, but it was worth my time. I'm playing it right now, and I love it.

Most people don't know that Henry was literally a genius, and was quite accomplished as a composer. Of course, being a King, and a quite infamous one as well, he is better known for all his wives and the beheading of two of them, as well as creating the Church of England. Henry's music became popular in Jamestown and Williamsburg a hundred years+ after his death (which is how I came to get this info while visiting Williamsburg when I attended a concert). Henry's biggest claim to fame is writing "Green Sleeves," as a way to lull Anne Boelyn. The music on the cd is pretty, I don't think they are considered 'great works', but you will have to like classical music to appreciate this cd.

This CD is wonderfully well produced. And sounds authentic, not synthesized. I'm not an expert, but I love the music. I would love to see a completely instrumentalized version of "Pastyme With Good Companye". I'm not a big fan of the vocals, unless they're acapella.

The perfect background music for your next royal banquet or joust! Many people forget that Henry Tudor was an accomplished musician and this CD captures that very well. A welcome and novel addition to your classical collection.

This recording is absolutely transcendent, with an ensemble of talented musicians and vocalists who manage to convey the genuine spirit of these songs. The passion that Henry felt when composing these comes through in each performance - Henry was an exceedingly talented songwriter and the performers on this CD are so talented that they defy adequate descripton. The quality of the recording itself is top notch and very professional; on par with the highest quality classical recordings. The enclosed booklet contains lyrics translated into multiple languages, and is a true asset to have on hand when listening to this collection the first few times. I have actually considered purchasing a second copy of this just in case something happens to the first copy - I can't live without it!

A superb CD for those who love all things tudor! Completely authentic music for a musical backdrop to tudor meals and events.

Excelent medieval work

I chose this because we had very recently been to a concert where Matthew Spring had played. The group are versatile and gifted performers, keeping early music alive, interesting and stimulating. Excellent.
