AMX Javelin Gold Portfolio 1968-1974

I bought this book for my dad who used to have a couple of Javelins and always wanted an AMX (the javelin amx). He has a bunch of old magazines and articles in his basement from when those cars were new, so I didn't know how much new info this book would give him.He sat down with it and read it for 3 straight days and kept commenting on all of the neat articles that he had never seen before about the cars, and how he now knows exactly which model and options he'd want to get in a javelin if he was able to buy a new one today.Anyway, he seemed thrilled with it. The lack of color photos (there are some, but not the majority) made me nervous but it didn't bother him at all. Great book!

I just bought a 73 Javelin as a restoration project. Since I was 8 at the time my car was built, I wasn't really into reading car magazines at the time. It is great to read these old article about my car.The articles are a mix of articles from the USA and Australia which I liked to see how they viewed the car down-under.Not too many color pictures though, don't be fooled by reviews, this is 95% black and white.

Full of quality pictures and articles written when the AMX was new this book is highly recommended to those who love the unsung muscle cars from Kenosha

I thought I should correct the rating a bit since the previous rating was by someone that did not know what the book was about before buying it, and thus was actually rated him/herself, not the book. This book is not meant to be a picture book. It is an accumulation of very useful original magazine reviews and performance tests on AMC muscle cars -nothing more, nothing less. The book was exactly as expected, so I can only give it a five star rating.

I was already aware that this book was a collection of reviews on Javelins & AMX, but was very pleasantly surprised that many are reproduced in colour. There are also a few nice extras like original full colour advertisements etc. For the price, I don't think anyone would be disappointed with this very nice book.

Having always had a fascination with American automobiles this is one of many books I own on the subject. It is one of the two I've bought specifically about AMC vehicles and is a great read on the historical road tests for the two particular models featured. I had Matchbox models of the Javelin of the early 1970's and this is where my interest stems from. Brutish V8 powered sports coupes with style and a unique appearance. This book will keep me fascinated with these particular automobiles for years to come. Like most car mad people you start thinking 'I want one' but 'Oh yeah I can't afford one'. No harm in dreaming though.
