A very disapppinting read
Quite frankly, it was just rather dull and nonsensical. I usually read books within two days. I have been stuck trying to make my way through this rather boring book for over one week now!. I am trying to fathom how it has been highly rated on amazon. How could a woman with amnesia successfully keep a diary and secret mobile phone from her husband. Furthermore, for such a length of time without being caught or arousing suspicion?. I could have forgiven a few inconsistencies but this is entirely unrealistic and therefore, feels like a waste of my precious time reading it. I just want to finish it in order to start another book which I hope will be significantly better than this tripe!.

a new kind of theme
this new kind of theme is probably an unknown world to many of us, to forget everything about a day when we wake up the next day, a problem that begins to have a solution when a doctor persuades the victim to keep a written diary about the day (which in the film is to keep a video diary of the day, an alteration which is actually much better when it's visual in the film) and he also phones her every morning to explain everything and tell her where the diary is kept, a fact which reinforces her acceptance of him - however all is not as it seems as we are taken into a quite unexpected last part - which i'll keep to myself for obvious reasons - happy reading.

) The problem for me was mainly in the writing style itself which is straightfoward at best, dull
This book is just about passable.....OKAY is about all I muster up to descibe its mediocrityThe initial idea /plot is reasonably interesting (with a few disappointing holes !) The problem for me was mainly in the writing style itself which is straightfoward at best , dull,.deadpan lacking in verve with very flat charactorisation. Things draaaaaaggggged oooooonnnnn! Which is another way of saying its all bit boring! It was fairly obvious what the outcome was going to be so was not the very challenging edge of your seat stuff as promsed in all the hype.I can definately see why the Americans snapped up the screen play ...it` will make the typical one dimentional fare that Hollywood seem to churn out ....I WON` T BE BUYING TICKETS FOT THAT ANYTIME SOON!On the other hand its not the worse thing I`ve ever read either . If your stuck at an airport with nothng else to read it will wile away few hours. It really depends what you want from a book . If like me you are quite keen on beautifully written /crafted tales steer clear and spend your money on something that really deserves your attentiion...

Great thriller
Before I Go To Sleep is about a woman, Christine, who loses her memory each time she goes to sleep. She believes she is around 20 years old and when she repeatedly wakes up next to a strange man - who turns out to be her husband, she has to learn who she is and what she has done with her life, all over again, before her memory is wiped clean when she goes to bed that evening. I can't tell you any more information about what happens in the book because it would be a huge spoiler. There are mysteries along the way that have me questioning everyone and everything in Christine's life, with the big twist at the end revealing all. I was kept on the edge of my seat by this thriller and after reading the ending, all of the questions I had were answered and the lose ends were neatly tied.I had to sleep on Before I Go To Sleep so I could gather my feelings towards this book. I remember thinking - just before I started the final part - that my opinion on the book will be based solely on what happens in Part Three. If the ending had a big twist, I knew I would love the book. If the book didn't have a big twist, then I would have been very disappointed. There were signs leading to both but thankfully, there was a twist. I've never had feelings like that before - where the ending would have determined whether I liked the book or not and it was a strange emotion. I am a big fan of this book and if you like mystery/thrillers, I would definitely recommend checking it out

A sinister and captivating debut
With a film on the horizon, starring the likes of the fabulous Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth, I thought I’d check out Before I Go to Sleep by SJ Watson myself. The novel opens when Christine wakes in what first seems to be drunken regret as she realises she’s slept with someone else’s husband, a man a generation older. But, when she heads into the bathroom to wash away her guilt, she’s transfixed by her reflection in the mirror for there, staring back at her, is a woman the same age as the man she’s left in bed. In fact, the photos on the wall allege he’s Ben, the man to whom she’s married.Ben tells her that, every time she goes to sleep, her memories disintegrate and everyone she loves is forgotten overnight. She suspects, however, that he’s telling her just half the story. So, when he’s at work or otherwise distracted, Christine writes in a journal and seeks the support of a doctor she’s come to trust. She can’t understand why she’s written ‘don’t trust Ben’ in capitals across the cover of her journal so every day she chooses to hide it in a shoe box at the bottom of her wardrobe and keeps her appointments a secret while she tries to piece everything together. The premise of the novel is clever although there are similarities to the film 50 First Dates. What makes Before I Go to Sleep fresh though is the the distance in time between the incident that caused the amnesia and the telling of the story. In my view, this makes the the novel much more interesting because the level of confusion is intensified and it’s not in any way corny. on the Literary Lightbox book review blog here: http://www.literarylightbox.com/book-review-before-i-go-to-sleep/ Read more
