EtonSoulra XL Solar Powered Sound System for iPod and iPhone - (NSP500B)

I bought this for use on vacation. My wife and I were going to a private beach and there wasn't electrical service. We played this pretty loud with bass boost on for 3 days straight (probably used for 7-9 hours each day). I never once plugged in and used solar power exclusively. At the end of every day when we would go inside it would begin to run on battery power and was fully charged as was my ipod. It seemed to me that it would run continuously as long as it was getting solar power. The sound is good quality and it gets pretty loud (but not distorted) when turned up all the way. I had no problems with the remote, it is simple and effective. It isn't something I'm going to use a whole lot but am very happy with the product.

This unit is advertised without detail as to what I-pods and I-phones it is compatible with. The listing simply says i-pods and i-phones so I incorrectly assumed that it would work with all. I have an i-pod classic for the storage space and while the Classic will doc into the unit and play, the remote and the controls on the player itself do not control the I-pod. The volume does work on the box. So the remote is useless and if you want to change songs, FFWD, or perform any other I-pod functions you have to do so from the I-pod docked in the box. In addition the packing box that the Soulra comes in clearly shows a picture of an I-pod Classic as one of the compatible I-pods.Otherwise the speakers perform great with nice sound for around the pool or in the yard.A further complaint is that the seller I purchased from will not pay for shipping and charges a 15% restocking fee. I'll submit the review for the seller JM Prime separately.

We used this speaker system while camping out on a private island in Maine this summer. Considering the fact that we had no electricity to recharge the speaker for the whole two weeks and that the weather was mostly overcast and rainy, I am very surprised at how well this product worked. Every night before we went to bed we set the speaker in the window to catch the early morning sun. By the time we were up it had charged enough for us to listen to music at a reasonable volume throughout the day, as long as it was kept in the sun. Remember it was mostly overcast so to be safe we kept it inside near a window.On these overcast days the music kept playing for approximately 3 to 5 hours after sunset at a medium volume. On sunny days it would fully recharge and we could play the music a lot louder or for longer. During this whole time my iPod only died once and that was because I somehow left it running overnight. I let it charge for a few hours ithe morning. Within 2 full days of charge and use the iPod was back up to full charge.The one issue I did have was that my iPod overheated a lot if the sun was out from behind the clouds. This happened whether the protective cover was up or down. It seemed easy enough to protect with a small towl or something similar protecting it from direct sun. This would be my only reason for knocking off the 5th star.I am back in the Caribbean now and plan to use it on the beach where I will put it under a lot more stress seeing as we have endless sun here. I will add to my review once I have played around with it a bit here. I want to see how much the sun will affect charge time and whether we will be able to run it at louder volumes for the duration of the day.

after reading reviews it sounded like a few people got faulty devices and i thought this sound system sounded good and was going to give it the benefit of the doubt. so we ordered it and paid almost 250 dollars for it. It worked well for the first month and we where very happy with it then one evening it just died, i tried plugging in the charger thinking the battery had just run out but it would do nothing only charge the ipod. i left it plugged in overnight to see if that would help and it didnt make a difference. i went to return it thinking these things are covered for a year just to find out i only have a month! A month of radio for only 250 dollars! I have had to return several "made in china" items as of late and im getting disgusted with the quality of stuff im purchasing on amazon. i got a partial refund on a faulty item which i think stinks and i will now stop ordering electronics from amazon and will thuink twice about any other high priced items back to walmart i guess where you expect to be given trash but at least you can return it!

I really liked the idea of this, because I did not want to build one as myself. Unfortunately it stopped working after three days. As for when it was working, the sound was pretty loud, not as loud as I would expect for 8 speakers. The sound was also very directional (you had to be in front of the speaker to hear it, at least with other noise going on). I called eton just to get the scoop on this product and they informed me this was their first speaker and it had some problems. Luckily I was able to return it to amazon. Also I do have the Eton Rugged Rukus. I really like that speaker. I literally can play it all day in the sun and the battery will basically not drop, then play it at least 6 hours once the sun goes down. Eton is going to come out with a new one of these I hear soon.

THis is a great little radio and a great price!. It says for APple, but you can to Android charging by buying a little converter. I believe this price came down because of their upgraded model, which has bluetooth, that is simple to remedy...just buy a Cablejive bluetooth converter or if you just want to use for Android and don't need bluetooth, buy the Cablejive dockboss5, like I did.Good stuff, rock on ETON!

This product is simply amazing and just what I was looking for. I can now take my ipod and go anywhere on our ranch and listen to my favorite music. Even our horses love it and they actually look forward to it every day. I just wish I had known about it earlier and also wish I could crank up the volume more although it's actually plenty loud on a quiet ranch. Great product that I love!

It took almost a month before I used it because it was sent to me without a battery. I ended up calling the Soulra company to buy it. It cost about $6.75 and I bought two, just in case. I rated it 3 stars because of the inconvenience, but the equipment works awesomely, with a battery in of course.

I purchased this item sometime ago. Love it its brilliant. The sound is great. Controller are easy and robust. I take mine to the house refurbishment and its use there ha not caused any issues despite the dust. There are not many units that will charge your iPod never mind via solar power. What would I do to improve the unit? add a way of connecting a USB connector under the unit cover, as per the iPod. We have used the jack on the side for a Sony Walkman but it is less neat with the jack lead and the Walkman 'free' of the unit. I would recommend purchase
