AD and A-1 Skyraider: Douglas's "Spad" in Korea and Vietnam (Legends of Warfare: Aviation, 40)

The book provides reasonably comprehensive design development and production histories of the AD-1 through the AD-7 models of the "Skyraider." It also briefly describes its antecedents in the form of the XSB2D-1 and the XBTD-1. Page 59 contains a brief tabulation of dimensions, weights, engine horsepower, armament, and performance characteristics of the AD-1, AD-5, and AD-6 / A-1H.The text is accompanied by a phenomenal collection of black and white and color photos of the various models. The photos depict the airplanes on the tarmac, landing and taking off aircraft carriers, in museums, and in flight. Some of the photos taken in museums feature specific details such as landing gear, wing-fold joints, weapons pylons, arrestor hooks, wheel retractions, and radar installations. The photo captions are usually very informative and are well worth taking the time to read.Of the 112 pages in the book, 11 pages are text and the remaining pages are photos.

This was a great book by a great man. This is the plane that Richard Cunningham trained on. I know he is destined for greatness. I don't know anything about him but I predict he will be president or something. He's awesome and seems very honest.The pictures here allow me to daydream the time away, pretending that I am in Vietnam. Since this is far safer than actually going to battle, this book may have saved my life.My 3 favorite aviation art books are:- Warbirds by Adam Toby- Grumman F-14 Tomcat by Dave Parsons- Great Fighter Jets of the Galaxy 1 by Tim Gibson
