Treatise on the Love of God Paperback – September 19, 2022

I liked that it was in easily understandable language for a theological book. You may want to look up the ancient definition of "complacency", however. I would recommend this book for any Christian, albeit a knowledge of Catholicism would be needed.

What else would I expect from St. Francis DeSales. This is very difficult reading. I would not reccomend it for the faint of heart. It really peers directly into the human heart and its many facets, how it is linked to the soul and why we are so loved by God. Can't put this down.

Wonderful. This explains the higher stages of spiritual growth in detail, insofar as that is possible. Most practically, de Sales gives necessary warnings, cautions, and advice to grow further. For those of us searching for "more" because we've read Teresa and John and Ignatius and...well you get the idea...but still seek more detail, more clarity, because we are experiencing things that are alluded to in the others, but not helpfully clarified, St. Francis de Sales is your saint. God bless the man for writing it and thank you Lord!!! for the english translation in my century! On the other hand, if you are looking for a comforting, easy, read that lulls one into a state of feeling good about himself, this is not the book.

Deep thoughts that take concentration but are unmatched in their clarity in explaining our human makeup and its relationship to God and the spiritual world. Worth the effort.

St. Francis de Sales' classic. It's dense to get through, but full of insights!

St.Francis de Sales is a master of the spiritual life. HIS TLG IS A bit deep for the ordinary reader. Philosophical and theological reasoning is a bit too much for the ordinary person. Once you pass Book Three there is greater interest. This book has weathered the ages and is one of the spiritual classics of all time.

I enjoyed it a ton but it’s a bit much to slog through. I wouldn’t undertake it as casual reading.

Nice book, but it is very hard to understand. I read it with a dictionary beside me.
