I have owned a Dogtra collar in the past to train my dog for hunting and it was much more durable, powerful, and reliable than this one. The shock/vibrate on this collar seems weak, and when my dog is playing/running in the woods, the button on the front of it tends to get bumped and switched off, which is definitely a concern. I have a medium sized 10 month old black lab(60 lbs), and he seems to only feel the shock when it's turned all the way to 8,and even then, his response is pretty mild. The other issue is that it doesn't seem to hold its charge for long(make sure switch is in the off position on both the collar and remote or it will not charge). I do like the beep function, though, and for the price, it's a decent, entry level remote collar.

I'd rather give it two and a half stars. I maybe get 250 feet range with a topped off battery, and that's with a clear line of site to my dog. I don't see how one could honestly advertise this as a 550 yard range. For that I feel a bit duped. Money was tight and I needed a waterproof shock collar fast, to replace the even cheaper one my dog fried jumping into water. For that it fit the bill. If you want a fair to low range, waterproof collar for a good price this is it. But if you need one for when your dog willfully runs off your property and quickly out of range, spend the $150 plus and get a professional one.

For now, I'm giving this collar 4 stars because of the amazing customer service.I bought this to use on my very easily trained adolescent puppy. I walk my dog off leash 95% of the time and wanted to remind him that he has to listen to me even when he's out of reach and treats fail to get his attention. Level 1 he can't feel, level 2 is his working level and level 3 is his distraction level. I tried level 4 one time during a particularly stubborn moment and I will never use that level again because I'm not into using pain to train.The collar is very easy to put on and it's great that it's waterproof. The issue I had with it is that it stopped working at around day 35 after I charged it. The company emailed me, offered to extend the warranty and went above and beyond making sure I was happy. Collar #2 will be here on Friday and hopefully it lasts longer.Update 7/2/16. Well, the third collar stopped working. I still question if the collar is waterproof because three of them stopped working after my dog swam in the ocean. I received a full refund. I'm keeping my 4-star rating though because the customer service is the best I've ever encountered. Also, because of the collar my dog learned to:-Come when called even if he's playing with three dogs or chasing a rabbit, squirrel or deer;-Drop food that he finds on the beach;-To stop rolling in stinky stuff;-To leave it if I don't want him near something.You have nothing to lose by trying this collar.

This seems like a fairly nice product but I do not seem to be having any luck with it. I have a deaf Staffie and wanted to use this collar to help with his training. The collar does not remain in place with both prongs in contact with the skin unless it is nearly choking him. So therefore the shock is worthless since it is only felt on occasions. The vibrations are far to gentle to use as a tool for getting his attention. This could also be in part because the signal is only felt on occasions. The beep is very quiet, and obviously I would not use this to help train a deaf dog but would want to use it if he was to get away and needed to track him down, unfortunately it is not easily heard over any slight distance or rustling of leaves or branches. These of course are just my experiences and may work for someone else's dog.

I had one issue with this product, the power button on the collar is exposed so my dog would accidentally (or maybe on purpose) turn it off by scratching his neck with his rear paw, or sometimes he would just shift the collar by scratching and then turn it off by brushing against a wall.When the collar was on it did it's job and was effective, but having to constantly check if the light on the collar was on or off became tiresome quickly.

Does not work well if objects are in between the controller and the collar.

Biggest downside to this collar is how EASILY it can be turned off. Twice yesterday I needed to summon or correct my Harrier, but to no avail. The collar was off. I actually saw my dog turn it off just by scratching. When roaming on our acres he must be hitting something to turn off the collar. The collar needs to have a different system for turning off, perhaps where you must hold down the button for 3 seconds. Otherwise, when turned on, the collar does as promised.

I like everything about this product with one exception. The placement and ease of the power switch. My dog is constantly turning it off. Otherwise a nice product. I love the slimline shape of the collar. It works well, my dog has responded best to the noise alert. Great buy!
