Best Soprano
Came in great condition and I received quickly which is uncommon because I live in rural New Hampshire. I really love this CD every piece is perfectly executed. Sumi Jo has a voice unmatched by other sopranos with a effortless elegance I’ve not experienced before. I wish I had a voice like that!

Quite lyrical and soothing
This is my first encounter with this very fine coloratura. She has a big rich voice which flows with ease. You never get the impression that it is forced. The voice quality is beautiful. No screeching in the high register. What I like most about this CD is how even and smooth flowing these Italian songs are sung. Though very controlled, Sumi Jo appears to sing them effortlessly with finesse. Her voice fits the Italian renaissance style perfectly. As much as I love Mady Mesple (my favorite coloratura), it's great to hear a new generation of singers who are so talented and beautiful to listen to.

Great technique and musicality.
I think that Sumi Jo is going to be one of the most beloved and admired sopranos of the next century. This CD presents her abilities as a recitalist. On this album, Ms. Jo gives lots of charm and finesse to this selection of Italian songs. Her diction is excellent, her phrasing is inmaculate and her dinamics are remarkable. Of course, being Sumi Jo an extraordinary coloratura soprano, she excelled specially in the most florid songs, like Qual farfalletta amante by Scarlatti, La Capinera by Benedict, and Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento by Paisiello. A very enjoyable CD that shows a great soprano at her peak.

So So Sumi Jo
The songs selected for this album are somewhat obscure. None of the famous Italian arias or other compositions that are instantly recognizable. A disappointing selection to say the least. The artist does qualify undoubtedly as world class, in the league with Kathleen Battle and others. My opinion ranks Kathleen Battle at present with no equal, a voice that no other female artist in the world right now can even hope to approach, Sumi Jo among them.Sarah Brightman although yet another contender, still does not in any way approach the incredible voice, delivery and demeanor of Kathleen Battle. My recommendation: stay with the best, i.e. Battle or, although not in Battle's league, but still phenomenal, Sarah Brightman. Most others by comparison, e.g. Kathleen Jenkins, pale by comparison.

Bettered by the real thing
I discovered the wonder that is Sumi Jo after I kept remarking to myself "Wow", every-time I played an operatic compilation and this one track came around - same track each time - hers! So, I sought to hear more and bought this CD, for no other reason than it was the only one Tower stocked. Sadly it seems that Sumi Jo is a little slow in receiving her rightful invitation to stand on the main podium. In my opinion, she is about as good as it gets, and certainly has a rightful place alongside the greats of Callas, Horne, Hendricks et al.Well, what can I say, I love this CD, her voice is fluid and elegant, sharp but not cutting, well formed and with a force that can be projected or held, it's a wonderful CD on so many levels and one I have never grown tired of listening to each morning, what a great way to start the day! As an introduction to operatic arias I would certainly recommend this as I am sure it would surprise and enchant even the most hardened of sceptics who think that "Opera is not for me", or that there was no life after Callas. This afternoon I was very fortunate to have 5th row seats at her spring recital, here in Japan, and what a truly awe-inspiring performance. A genuine world-class soprano Sumi Jo certainly is. Today's repertoire ran from Handel, Vivaldi, Benedict, Strauss, Bellini to Verdi. Singing comfortably in FOUR languages she delivered a performance that the CD in now way prepared me for. A performance that brought her four encores, numerous standing ovations and thunderous applause from a usually reserved (Japanese) audience. Besides her obvious musical talents I have to say that I found her to be such a marvellously warm and appreciative human being who was genuinely appreciative of her audience and I can't wait to get out there and listen to more of the joy that is Sumi Jo.
