Sony Sel1018 E Mount - Aps-C 10-18 mm F4.0 Wide Angle Zoom Lens

This lens is really the only option if you want the Sony Alpha a6000-a6600 camera it is designed for to operate in "Intelligent Auto" mode and adjust the aperture and focus for you. Optical Steady Shot means you can shoot in lower light conditions and still get a sharp picture even with some hand shake. You could argue there's the Sigma f1.4 16mm wide angle lens which is also auto-focus but it is fixed at 16mm (24mm equivalent at 35mm standard sensor size) so not any wider than the kit box 16-50 lens. You could look at the 7artisans 12mm rectilinear lens, or the Laowa 9mm zero-D lens but these are completely manual, i.e. without camera-driven autofocus or aperture selection, and no OSS. This lens is a little slow at a speed rating of f/4 but for pure convenience you can't beat it. With a range of 10-18mm, you only then need to buy the 18-135mm zoom and you've got a pretty good zoom coverage for the least amount of money, although this lens at £500-£600 and the 18-135mm lens at £400-£500 means this is still an expensive option compared to the stock 16-50mm kit lens. However, the photos with this lens are really sharp into the corners across its range, just like the 18-135mm lens is across its range. Leagues above the stock 16-50 lens where there's severe blurriness and it's so bad you may as well be using a compact camera which will probably give you a better overall photograph in my experience! The only downside with this lens is barrel distortion which won't matter if you're shooting landscapes at distance but using the lens for close-ups whilst capturing a lot of background too will show the distortion and you will notice it. Shots with verticals such as the edges of buildings or tree trunks will bow out across the horizontal centre of the lens. The 7artisans 12mm lens and Laowa 9mm lens don't suffer this problem. Sony does provide a barrel distortion correction app that will run on an alpha camera - downloadable from your Play Memories account for a charge (about £8-£9 from memory). I can't comment on the bokeh as I haven't experiment that far with it yet. Overall I wouldn't be without this lens now as it's really the only do-everything option that provides coverage for increasingly in vogue ultra-wide-angle photography. I think even if I'd purchased the laowa 9mm and the Sigma 16mm in addition to the 7artisans 12mm I already have, I'd still be sitting here thinking this lens - the Sony SEl1018 is the one I really want. That's just the way I feel and you may think differently, but my advice would be to try and afford this lens first if you want ultra-wide angle coverage and try out the fixed lenses such as the Laowa at leisure. At least you have an excuse to buy the laowa (9mm is wider still than the 10mm this lens will reach) or the Sigma (with a faster speed of f/1.4 so it allows a faster shutter speed or lower noise, less grainy videos in low light levels).

I have put off buying this lens for so long because of it's very high price. I bought it recently and it is fabulous. Amazing for video on my Sony A6400. Get this lens and also the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 for your low light needs. The only two lenses that you need for your Sony for video. Get the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 for your portraits and you are sorted and very happy.

Great lens, I purchased this lens for full frame and wide shots mainly when travelling for days out or on holiday & for night sky shots, great picture quality and great silent auto focus, I rated 4 out of 5 stars on value for money as this lens is a little bit dated but it is still rather expensive considering there's a more recent generation available, however .. the fact it is still expensive can say something to the kit holding its value if looked after correctly

Weitwinkelobjektive auf Sony-APS-C sind ein schwieriges Thema.Edit: Ich habe vor kurzem wieder ein Exemplar (2ter Versuch) woanders bestellt und aber es war ebenso dezentriert. Es ist wirklich nervig und auch traurig weil das ansonsten für meine Bedürfnisse ein prima Objektiv ist.Nach langer Recherche habe ich mich doch entschieden es mit dem SEL1018 zu probieren; wohlwissend, dass dieses Objektiv eine signifikante Serienstreuung hat und mir wieder ein Testmarathon bevorsteht. Kurzum: Ich habe es gewagt und ein dezentriertes Exemplar bekommen, welches dann auch zurückging. Dazu Verweis auf die angehängten Bilder: Vergleich linke untere mit rechter unterer Ecke auf demselben Bild jeweils mit 100% Vergrößerung. Sogar auf50% zusammengestaucht sieht man den Schärfeunterschied bei dem Exemplar deutlich.Für mich ist sowas bei dem Preis inakzeptabel und bei einem Objektiv für Landschaft/Architektur. Sowas kann ich nicht drucken lassen auf Leinwand. Dafür verliert es zurecht einen Stern.Die Vergleichsbilder oben sind mit Blende 5.6, mit OSS an und mit sehr kurzer Belichtungszeit geschossen (um die 1/500s im Schnitt). Man erkennt etwas Gutes und Schlechtes daran.1. Wie krass mein Exemplar dezentriert war wenn man den Schärfeunterschied trotz Abblenden noch so sieht.2. Die Schärfe ist in den (guten) Ecken für meine Begriffe absolut in Ordnung zwischen Blende 5.6 und 8.Auf Blende 4 ist das SEL1018 in den Ecken zu verschwommen für meine üblichen Landschaftsschüsse. Das ist nicht so ganz in Ordnung für den Preis aber für meinen Anwendungszweck und da ich nur zwischen Blende 5.6 und 8 arbeite kein Beinbruch.Das Gegenlichtverhalten ist i.A. wirklich gut durch die guten Beschichtungen. Es gibt kaum Flares und der Kontrastverlust ist nicht zu stark.Sonnensterne sind kaum vorhanden. Nur bei starkem Abblenden oder halbes verdecken der Sonne. Dann sehen sie aber auch schön aus. Den Kompromiss kann ich bei der Größe eingehen.Nimmt man Größe und Gewicht dieses Objektivs ist es eine Offenbarung für alle Reisende und Bergsteiger, die eine Sony APS-C Kamera besitzen. Vorsicht aber, das SEL1018 ist nicht explizit abgedichtet. Stört mich jetzt nicht weil ich nicht Regen fotografiere.Schön wären halt noch Entfernungsmarkierungen sowie OSS. & AF/MF-Schalter gewesen. Einen AF/MF-Schalter kriegt Canon ja sogar an seinen EF-M-Pancakes hin. Da das aber durchgehend bei Sony im günstigen Bereich so ist, ziehe ich dafür auch keinen Stern ab.Alles in allem wäre das Objektiv eigentlich ein hervorragend dimensioniertes Weitwinkelzoom aber die Serienstreuung verhagelt es. Das lässt sich zum Glück umgehen durch das Testen des Objektivs. Erwischt man ein gutes Exemplar, dann ist alles gut. Obacht beim Gebrauchtkauf! Testet das Objektivvorher ausführlich und nehmt eine Laptop zum Bilderbetrachten mit. Auf dem Display der Kameras sieht so eine Dezentrierung nicht so einfach.

Ich habe dieses Objektiv bereits schon einmal gehabt, damals war es knackscharf. Aufgrund Umstieg auf A7 R III undA7 III habe ich es damals verkauft. Jetzt habe ich mir als Reisekamera noch eine A6500 zugelegt und mir aus diesem Grund für Landschaftsaufnahmen dieses Objektiv gekauft.- Das Objektiv ist bei Blende 4 in der 100%-Ansicht, also der "normalen" Bildgröße", über den gesamten Bildbereich unscharf- 18 mm ist so gut wie nicht zu gebrauchen- bei Blende 8 gewinnt es an Schärfe, aber in der 100%-Ansicht ist die Unschärfe weiterhin leicht sichtbar- Ich hatte bei dem durch Amazon gelieferten Objektiv den Eindruck, dass es sich um ein bereits schon einmal zurückgegebenes Objektiv handelt. Wahrscheinlich genau aus dem Grund.Insofern wäre es wünschenswert, wenn Amazon auch auf die Gründe zur Rückgabe schauen würde und dann ggf. direkt an Sony zurückliefert und nicht erneut in den Umlauf bringt.
