"To Escape Death, She Had Become Death"
This book is explosive from start to finish. It is fast paced, full of characters I came to love very quickly and not to mention there's plenty of magic, mystery and a really cute dog!Celaena is back and better than ever after the events of Throne of Glass in which she eventually, after kicking some butt, became the Kings Champion. In this book we find out that this comes at a price and Celaena must now dispatch any enemies befalling the King at his request. But we know she's inherently good-natured, despite being crafty, so this isn't as easy as it seems.Particularly when you might become distracted by a handsome prince or a romantic guard. There are lots of back stories running throughout which all come together piece by piece. This made for a more interesting, detailed story as I tried to figure things out alongside Celaena. Compared to the first book this is a significant step up.The character development is enormous compared to the previous book, which I felt showed each character kind of superficially. Of course I still liked the characters, but I didn't feel like I'd be too devastated if one of them took a tumble. Now I'm totally invested. The relationships, especially the way Maas shows friendships, are built within this second instalment and I much preferred that although there is romance, the friendships Celaena made were really well developed - I can't stand a story led by romance alone! Equally this made the secondary characters more important to flesh out the plot even more. The plot was clever with lots of forks in the road. I thought I knew where this story was going, even on a romantic level, but actually Maas caught me off guard a few times which was refreshing. Usually it's obvious who the love interest will be, who will or won't die and so on. Maas actually takes chances and shows that certain events genuinely change matters for good instead everything being brushed under the carpet. Its rare for me to feel emotionally invested in the story and each character but towards the end of the book I was completely hooked. I love Chaol. I'm pathetic.A really strong sequel - all the complaints I had from the first book were completely eliminated. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Huge improvement on book one
I read the first book in this series about three years ago and was seriously underwhelmed. It felt overlong and a bit derivative and I didn't feel much spark with either of the romantic interests. I never had any inclination to read the sequels. And then, earlier this year, someone persuaded my to read the author's other series, A Court of Thorn and Roses, and it was one of my favourite reads of the year. So slightly reluctantly, I decided to give this series another go.Across the board, this book was better than its predecessor. The heroine was more nuanced and developed, the main love interest had grown more attractive and the plot was more interesting, with more focus on the magic, the world and the backstory. It had lots of twists and turns and some quite shocking moments. It wasn't as good as the newer series, but it was very enjoyable.Without giving too much away, it ends with two revelations/twists, one of which I'd suspected, one of which was a total surprise. As they were both things the main character knew but that had never been mentioned in her narrative, it was rather jarring, but definitely got me racing to pick up the next book.

READ THESE BOOKS!!!
If you liked Hunger Games, grew up with Harry Potter and just want an epic female read, READ THESE BOOKS! I am in love with everything that Sarah J Maas writes. These miniatures are the best thing in the world for me because I am away at school again and I was missing having the books with me (couldn't bring them overseas) but these little copies are the greatest thing ever. I wish that ALL books came in this size for easy travel, and because I kind of want a miniature bookshelf someday! IF you have read these you ABSOLUTELY need to check out her most recent book, Crescent City.

Incredibly intense and exciing
This is my fourth Sara J Maas book of the year, and my god has it been worth every second of reading! Crown of Midnight takes off perfectly where Throne of Glass finished, you can read my review here, so after the fierce competition to become The Kings Champion Celeana now has to live with her life killing for the king. Although Kings champion Celeana us far from the freedom she desires. Does she kill for her master, or does she live by her own morals and risk everyone she loves and holds dear?Celeana was as bad ass in CoM as she was in ToG! In fact no, I think she kicked a bit more butt in CoM after finding her feet, her confidence and her weapons she really came into her own! She's such a strong character, and so incredible you can't help but absolutely love her. Even though Celeana's character developed in each book, it's nice to see her develop across the series as a whole. It took her a while to find herself in Throne of Glass and in Crown of Midnight once she's gotten comfortable in her own skin, you start to see who she really is, and what she's really capable of.I mean lets be serious now the best part of Crown of Midnight was Chaol and Dorian. I ship Chaol and Celeana so bad guys! Chaol and Dorian are so much more in Crown of midnight than they were in Throne of Glass. They've developed and become more solid characters in my eyes. Dorian was rather besotted with Celeana in ToG, that much was clear but in CoM he sits back and lets her do her thing, whilst hurting himself too! Got to admit I felt for him so much during CoM. Chaol did the total opposite, he was so reserved about her in ToG, to the point where I don't think he actually liked her at all, and then in CoM BOOM! Someones got his thaaaang going on for her! Chaol is one of those got to love, slightly damaged but loveable characters that you root for al the time. Lovable rogue so be it! I'm excited to see where these ships sail in Heir of Fire and the rest of the series!Crown of Midnight really develops the storyline of the series, it's stands as a fabulous book and an epic instalment in the Throne of Glass series of books. The characters develop, the storyline is fast-paced and gripping and all in all it makes you crave the next instalment.I really struggle to write reviews for the second or further books in a series because I don't want to say too much in case you've not read the previous books just yet.Be warned, the ending of Crown of Midnight is utterly heartbreaking and you're ships will sink, your heart will break and it'll take you some time to recover! Until you dive into Heir of Fire! It's epic, exciting and truly unputdownable. Crown of Midnight is a book you'll revisit time and time again, and t'll break you every time.A massive, huge 5 heart read!

I’m really not certain how I feel about the love triangle. I feel like Celaena and Chaol are ...
THIS BOOK HAD ME SO STRESSED. This instalment in the series was even more thrilling than the first book and I genuinely felt scared at some parts. Maas writes the action so well I felt so embroiled in it and I has no idea what could happen next.First things first, I’m really not certain how I feel about the love triangle. I feel like Celaena and Chaol are who are meant to be together, and I feel like they could be good together, but my love for Dorian is making it hard for me to accept the pairing. Dorian is my little baby and I don’t want him to be hurt.Every single person in this book has secrets, and so many unexpected things happened. Normally I’m quite good at guessing what’s going to happen next in books, but not in Crown of Midnight and I have to commend Maas for that, it’s quite hard to surprise me in books.Maas’ writing in Crown of Midnight is so addicting, I could not put the book down, I even read in a lecture. Her characterisation is so incredibly good, the characters are so believable. They all do questionable things and sometimes you find yourself not liking them for periods of time. Celaena has such infuriating moments in the book, but not to the point where you love her any less. Her intentions make sense eventually but I often found myself yelling “what are you doing?”. No one is contrived in this series, they all show themselves to make mistakes like humans do, no one is perfect.I honestly love this series so much already. I’m so excited to read the next 2 books that are out. I’m sorry but my blog isn’t going to have much variance over the next week because I only want to read these books and can’t think of reading anything else. The ending of this book had me so excited that I had to take a sleeping pill because I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep otherwise.
