A Good Wife: Escaping the Life I Never Chose

A must-read for everyone
Very inspiring tale. It takes a lot of courage to get out of a toxic relationship, but it needs to be done nonetheless. What I particularly loved about the book is not just the effort to tell the tale in a very balanced way but also attempting to empathize, wherever needed, with the husband as well. That tells a lot about the author as a person. While society is moving towards accepting divorce as a reality and not making it a benchmark for a woman's success or failure in life, a lot needs to be done. While the author has a UAE-Pakistan background, the domestic abuse pattern is true for so many women of the Indian sub-continent, irrespective of the country, religion, sect.A must-read for everyone, not just women, but also men and teenagers (as they approach marriageable age).

It's a good read
I got hooked to the book. It's a must read if you are trying to read books that help through violence and abuse by partner.

Unrealistic expectations
Very well written. This books highlights multiple issues in Pakistani society. Samra was not the only one who was abused. Unfortunately her husband was very badly abused by his parents. Inlaws expected her to be their glorified maid/slave while her husband had different expectations. Samra wanted completely different things in life. This created a very complicated situation. However, she came out fine and doing well.
