Good but could be better
It's good but there are a few tips you really need to follow in order to get the most out of your cold brew.-Pour your coffee grinds in the middle strainer only about 2/3rds full.-Slowly add your water on top of them. When the pitcher is about 2/3rds full of water stop pouring.-Grab a long spoon or utensil and stir around the coffee grounds well. You will notice the water getting darker now.-Once all the grinds are thoroughly mixed and saturated, add more grinds to the top (the more you add, the stronger the coffee will be).-Slowly add more water to the new grinds on top and stir again going about halfway down.-Let steep overnight.-Before drinking in the morning, pour a large cup of cold brew and instead of drinking the first cup, open your grinds strainer and pour that cup of cold brew back over the grinds.-You can now enjoy a cup of strong and very well mixed cold brew. The reason you want to do all of this is to get a nice dark strong cold brew. The coffee grinds become compacted in the strainer and water cannot penetrate them completely, even when sitting overnight. You'll notice it by the color of the water. The first couple of times we made the cold brew it was weak and the color of tea versus dark coffee. When you mix the grinds and saturate at the same time, it allows the water to soak into all of the grinds. You *could* skip the last step before drinking but the reason I pour the first cup back over the grinds is to fully mix the coffee up so you aren't getting a weaker cup from the top and a stronger cup from the bottom where the flavor sunk down to. Hope this helps!

Not for cold brew enthusiasts
I tried this after using a bodum French press for cold brew for many years. In the bodum, the course grinds are free to float through the water and that seems to enable way more transfer of flavor for a much richer, concentrated coffee (not to mention utilizing the beans more effectively). The con of this method is that you get a little bit of the fine grounds that go through the bodum filter (so I usually filter a second time = mess and time). This on the other hand, compresses the grinds and hardly allows for any water surface area to collide with the beans. I did a full carafe with just under a cup of grinds and the coffee came out so so diluted, almost undrinkable. Another issue is that it took about 30 minutes of adding a little bit of water at a time to fill this up (adding water through the grind holder). The pro is that clean up is easy... But I think you only get about half of the extraction from the beans - huge waste.

Decent product, but doesn't make the strongest coffee
I used to use an old plastic Starbucks jug to make my cold brew by pouring grounds and water in the jug and leaving it overnight, then pouring it through a filter. This made great coffee, but it was a bit of a pain to set up and clean multiple items, so I bought this hoping to simplify the process. The pitcher+filter work pretty well, but I found that the flavour wasn't as strong as my old method, probably because the grounds don't mix directly in the coffee. Leaving the grounds in for longer didn't increase the flavour, it just made the coffee bitter. Stirring/mixing the coffee every few hours did make it better, but I found myself going back to the old method so I could set it and forget it. I still kept the item as I used it more than a few times to test, but I really only use the pitcher now since I like how light it is and I like the lid.
