Gut health = Mental & Physical Health
The most comprehensive book you’ll ever read about gut health. I don’t need any other book after this. The author describes in full detail how we should understand our bodies.

Dumbed down and far too simplified
The headline says it all really. The author is clearly very well educated on the gut, is very academic and obviously knows her stuff. However, given her educational background and the fact that she must be very up to date with the latest evidence and research, her book fails to add much science to the matter. What could be a fascinating read is instead watered down, using vague, pointless analogies to try to get the message across to the reader. These analogies are often so meandering that you lose track entirely re. what she's trying to say. The bottom line is it's a book that could contain brilliant content but is so dumbed down you feel treated like an idiot. I know that not all books need to be scientific and that many books are written with the lay person in mind. Nor am i saying that i'm a scientific genius. But really. If you re-wrote this book without the ridiculous tangents and analogies it would have far more potential. Added to this, the author's sister did the illustrations for this book. Even these annoy and irritate me. They contribute nothing of relevance and are the kind of doodles i'd expect to see a 7 year old produce. Funnily enough, I ordered this book at the same time as i ordered "10% Human" by the author Alanna Collen. I read "Gut" first and was extremely disappointed. I then turned my attention to "10% Human". Wow, does this book pack a punch. It's an utterly fascinating, informative, brilliant read based on the very latest scientific research and evidence base. It isn't dry, heavy or yawn inducing. Instead the author has succeeded in writing a comprehensive, extremely well written book which is easy to understand but littered, page after page, with the wondrous world of microbia and facts about the gut. I would urge you to consider this book first if you're keen to read and understand more about the gut (I am no way endorsed/sponsored etc to write this - I've simply loved it and couldn't recommend it more!).
