it is plastic, and a beautifully built beret... of all the ones i've bought, its the best

Q: Is the sweatband actual leather or PU?

The beret I purchased, the band has a short stitching gap that allowed for inspection, with a magnifier, of the back side. The back side has short hair fibers and the surface of the band has pores. This strongly suggest the band is a leather substance. Really nice beret by the way.

Q: How do you wear this beret correctly? Does the adjustable tie go in the back? I read that some people cut out the hard plastic..what is its purpose?

The tie is toward the back. I think the plastic liner, a square, is to prevent sweat of the head from affecting the fabric.
