WWE: Survivor Series 2020
S**7
30 Years of the Deadman
This Blu Ray contains the full 2020 Survivor Series event on a single disc. It also contains the pre-show match along with The Undertaker's first and final WWE match as this event featured The Undertaker's farewell.Dual-Brand Battle Royal - This comes from the pre-show. It was about what you'd expect from a battle royal. Nothing particularly special or memorable about the action but they had enough entertaining moments to keep it fun. There's nothing you really need to see here but it's a perfectly watchable start to the night.Team RAW(AJ Styles, Braun Strowman, Matt Riddle, Keith Lee and Sheamus) vs. Team Smackdown(Seth Rollins, Otis, Kevin Owens, Jey Uso and king Corbin) - The first match of the main show was the men's traditional Elimination match. I thought it was a good, fun and entertaining match. The action was non-stop and all the eliminations worked. The way it was booked is definitely going to annoy some people but I enjoyed it, not the best of these kinds of matches but still a lot of fun.The New Day vs. The Street Profits - The New day were representing RAW with their Tag Team Championship and the Profits were the champions for Smackdown. It was a very good tag team contest with a fast pace and exciting action. It also felt like a kind of passing of the torch match, with New Day playing a slightly more heelish role to help get the Street Profits over. It had a good amount of time, with some solid near-falls and a strong and decisive finish. Very good match.Bobby Lashley vs. Sami Zayn - Bobby was fighting for RAW here as the United States Championship whilst Sami was Smackdown's Intercontinental Champion. It was a pretty one sided match which was a shame. Sami's actions from start to finish made that work fairly well though which made it less of a disappointment. I'd have preferred a more even fight but what we got was still solid thanks to Sami Zayn.Asuka vs. Sasha Banks - This match had the two Women's champions going head to head, Sasha representing Smackdown and Asuka representing RAW. It was a great, back and forth match. They've faced each other a lot lately which showed in all the reversals they had for each other which kept it exciting. There were plenty of near-falls and dramatic submission attempts as they fought towards a good, clean finish. I'd have liked for it to have gone even longer than it did but it still had a decent amount of time. Match of the night for me.Team RAW(Nia Jax, Shayna Baszler, Lana, Lacey Evans and Peyton Royce) vs. Team Smackdown(Bayley, Bianca Belair, Liv Morgan, Ruby Riott and Natalya) - This was the second and final Elimination match of the night, this time featuring both brands' women. To me this was similar to the men's elimination match in that I enjoyed all the action and thought it was a lot of fun, but it had booking that I know might annoy some people and I may not be in the majority when I say that I really liked it. A very good, entertaining match.Drew McIntyre vs. Roman Reigns - This was the main event match of the night, with the two brands male champions facing off. Drew was RAW's WWE Champion and Roman was the Universal Champion from Smackdown. It was a very good main event. It had a methodical start, but they made it work by making the match feel like a big deal. The pace built up as the match went on and got really exciting around the conclusion. There were some good near-falls and a finish that gave us a satisfying winner without hurting the loser's momentum. The Undertaker's farewell - To close out the show there's a big celebration for The Undertaker after he'd announced that he would be officially retiring. It was a nice moment to close out a great career. I didn't personally feel like it needed to be on pay-per-view, but I can see the idea behind it as it's thirty years on from Undertaker making his debut so it made sense. There were loads of people from Undertaker's past who came out(only to disappear again) a nice video package about the Deadman and then all the theatrics of Undertaker's entrance one final time. It was nicely done.Undertaker Bonus Matches:The Million Dollar Team(Ted DiBiase, Honky Tonk Man, Greg Valentine and The Undertaker) vs. The Dream Team(Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart, Dusty Rhodes and Koko B. Ware) - This was a traditional Survivor Series Elimination match from the 1990 event and was The Undertaker's WWE debut. It was a good match, above average for this style of match from this time period. Undertaker wasn't selling much at this stage, but he had a good showing and it wasn't over-done. The main stand-outs were Bret Hart and Ted DiBiase, along with it being notable for The Undertaker's debut. A good, fun bonus match I'm glad they included. The Undertaker vs. AJ Styles - This was the main event of night one of Wrestlemania 36 and it was a Boneyard match. It was a cinematic style of match, with no commentary, interesting camera angles and general silliness. It took place in a graveyard and was certainly an interesting match. Normally I wouldn't want a match like this to be part of Wrestlemania but due to the crowd-less arena it actually added something quite fun and different. You can't take any of it too seriously but if you just sit back and switch your brain off you have a really fun and entertaining match to close out Undertaker's career. This was another very good show from WWE. There wasn't a bad match on the card in my opinion. There was lots of entertaining action and I enjoyed all the matches from start to finish. The Undertaker farewell was well done and worth a watch if you're an Undertaker fan and the two Undertaker bonus features were very nice inclusions too. An easy recommend here for this fun and exciting show.
