Outstanding book! Application at it's finest
Liliana brilliantly covered a core project management subject that many people do not understand, therefore can use it properly. I am a hands-on learner. When I saw the word "practical" on the front cover, I thought it would be worth the read. This is the best kind of book for us, putting theory to work. I was pleasantly surprised at how her real-world examples matched what I was looking for. While many of her examples are from the IT industry, the concepts transferred to my industry of construction. Too many authors live in theory-land. I love to hear war stories, lessons learned, and personal tips. This is a real "how to" book for creating and using a WBS that aligns with the PMBOK (4th ed) and the Practice Standard for WBS (2nd ed). Each chapter covers the benefits (and give tips/examples) of using a WBS in nearly every area of project management. I searched high and low for answers on WBS software. No one could even discuss the topic. I found everything I needed in Chapter 7, a full breakdown of 7 different software options, along with customizing tips. Once you have this book delivered, carve out a permanent spot near your PM work station. I highly recommend. Thank you for sharing from your experiences Liliana!

Finall a readable and Understandable book on WBS
I have been a PMP for many years, even taught project management. I am so tired of books that explain something from the vantage point of someone who already knows what they are talking about and can't simplify it so that others will understand. The concept of a WBS is easy, but it isn't necessarily easy to execute based on the way it is presented in most books. Buchtik's book is clear, easy to understand, and common sense based.Probably the part of the book I loved the most was the discussion about the differences between a project schedule and a WBS. Finally someone has the nerve to say what I have been saying for years, they are not the same.I would recommend this book to anyone interested in understanding what a WBS is and how to develop one that is actually useful on a real project.

Learned a lot!
I had a vague idea about WBS and thought I could just sit down and write one. But this book taught me so much more than expected. The author writes in an engaging style and brings in her real life experience which I really appreciate. When correctly written, as this book instructs, deliverables stand out.

Great book
It's an easy way to understand the complex and ambiguous topic of WBS. It's terrific in order to develop a complete work and in detail of all issues and potential risk than could appear.

if you have any confusion on what WBS is or how to use it this book is a must read.
I have been working as a project manager for years with some training but mostly it was learn as you go. I was guilty of confusing the schedule with the WBS. This book clarified the WBS and the WBS dictionary and how it is used in conjunction with the project schedule. It ties the WBS in with communication, risk and resource management. I will be applying the principles I learned from this book in my future projects. I also liked the fact that this was not a long book, I finished it in just a few days.

A Good, Complete Indoctrination
Let's face it. The WBS should not need a complete book of instruction but, because it is so misunderstood, this book has come along to set us straight. The book is in compliance with the PMBOK guidelines and provides references for many of the statements from authoritative sources. It provides several examples walking the reader through each step of developing a WBS. I would have appreciated more examples of unusual situations and ways to tackle tricky issues. However, all of the key elements are well covered.

Fundamental

Most complete book on WBS
It may look basic when you first read it, but it becomes a very useful resource when it comes to developping a real WBS for a real project!
